New to the boards - engaged for a month and starting to look at venues. We're looking for a Saturday in August, and preliminary guest list came up with 150-170 people. I've called a few places and only one responded so far - requiring a minimum guarantee of 225 for Sat night. Am starting to worry - does anyone have suggestions on venues with lower minimums? From websearch, these are my top choices:
- Riviera - Sand Castle - Inn at New Hyde Park (225 Guarantee) - Woodbury Country Club - Fox Hollow - Crescent (I grew up in Bayville, so my family is close, not super-convenient for OOT guests)
Any other suggestions/tips are appreciated!

My wedding is a Saturday night and my minimum is 150. We're getting married at the Woodlands.
Also check out the Vanderbilt Mansion they were going to let us have a minimum of 125 for a Saturday night.
Other places that should be able to accommodate you:
Westbury Manor North Ritz Club The Watermill

you should try posting this on the BHB (bride helping brides)
those minimums seem pretty high in my opinion.
we're booked at verdi's of westbury for Saturday night, Oct 9, 2010 our minimum is 150. I think all the places we went to the minimum was around 150.

try the thatched cottage too, I think there minimum for a saturday night is 150 and you get the entire venue to yourself.

Our minimum at Jericho Terrace was 160...plus I know they have smaller rooms!

Inn at NHP was definitely the highest guarantee I was quoted, so don't worry, the 225 is kind of unusual. Most places that only have 1 even at a time on Sat night will have a higher guarantee, 200, but the rest of the places on your list shouldn't be that high.

You could try and haggle with the venues too, just because they say they require you to have 225 doesn't mean anything. Tell them to knock that number down or your not booking with them thats what we did and you should see how fast they changed that number. Put your game face on girl!

West Sayville Country Club & The Mansion at Timber Point both had a 75 min for Sat PM in October.

Crashing.
Swan Club, Jericho Terrace (the smaller room, I forget the name - 150 minimum), Crest Hollow, North Ritz Club, Thatched Cottage.

there's also a smaller room at the Metropolitan that can guarantee under 200!
...but the Riviera is my fav out of all of those. I'm biased though .

Thanks everyone for the info - only a few weeks in and already I'm totally stressing out! Guess having received responses of super-high minimums and sold out in 2010 venues from the first three places I called just made me a little nervous...
I've left messages for some of the venues everyone suggested. Thanks for the help!
