Very Disappointed!

Very Disappointed!

Hi girls im posting under an anonymous name b/c i need some advice/ to vent re: my mom and well that explains the unknown name. I'm a very avid poster and just feel funny posting under my true name i hope you dont mind.

Quite a few months back i had been looking for invites and well i had pick out what i thought were the perfect ones and was going to order them but decided to hold off b/c it was way to early and well they were a on the expensive side. My parents at the time had offered to pay for the invites and i thanked them very much and took them up on their offer. Since then they have been bugging me to order them and i still had not done it. so This week i went on to order and realized they would be close to 900.00 for them and i know their money situation and choose to tell them that it was way to much that i would find something else even though it would be setting i was more then ok with finding something else. So i went on tongiht and found another PERFECT invite which i Love and it would be more around 650.00 Yes i know still very expensive but i think thats a pretty great deal for a pokcet fold with the whole kitten caboodle.
I told my mom about my great find thinking she would be happy and she keeps talking me into getting something PLAIN with no color just white and its not what i want. im very thankfull for them wanting to buy my invites but not if its something that i dont want. When i say no mom i dont like that or thats not my style she gets mad and she always has a comment about how i dont need expensive things and yes i know shes right but in the grand scheme of things i want the invite to reflect my wedding and if its not something i would like or want i shouldnt have to settle that much.

I prob sound like a major bridezilla but im just very Disappointed that everything i seem to like she doesnt or puts it down due to the $ if she cant afford them i TOTALLY UNDERSTAND i would be more then willing to split them or even pay for them myself. I just really dont want to hurt her feelings.

Sorry for the novel i just needed to vent and maybe get some adive on maybe where i could look to maybe get them cheaper. A DIY would possibly work but im a full time student and i work part time and would be driving my self insane with the pressure of having to get invites done and out on time. i would save myself the panic attacks if i just ordered them already done.

Is 650.00 too much for 100 pocketfold invites with respose cards, direction cards, accomidation cards, reception cards, envelopes, and stickers to close the pocket fold?

Thank you very much for listening!

$650 is not 'ALOT' for pocketfolds...but it is alot for invites in general...what if you offered to DIY the pocketfolds to save $$ but still get what u want?

I personally think that more importantly than what the dollar amount is, is the fact that you obviously feel very strongly about finding invitations that reflect your wedding style. And rightfully so. I think it was very sweet of you to settle for less than what you originally wanted in the first place. I'm sorry to say, but you may be faced with the decision of tellingyour mother that if she is not going to respect your wishes, then you cannot accept her offer anymore. Don't settle, b/c then you will just be holding a grudge.

what you could do is price out the cheapest invitations you can find, than give that price to your mom, tell her since you want something fancier you will pay the difference. it might work better than just saying that you will split it. good luck!!

girls i truly appreciate your responses. i feel like im stuck between a rock and a hard place. My parents have been in some really bad money situations the last few years and unfortunetly have not been able to help with the wedding as much as they would have wanted. and i Totally understand i wouldnt want to put them into more debt. We've been having many arguements about how she has not been able to help pick out anything and how she feels shes not apart of the wedding planning cuz shes not chipping in. and i really dont want to hurt her feelings by again Not doing what she wants but it is my wedding and i would really like this but i do understand. and im trying to be extra understanding to her.

my dad on the other hand says.. 'get what you want! if you want it just order them' but i know hes saying it cuz im his only daughter and he feels bad that he cant get EVERYTHING i want (not that i expect it) I just feel like they have sacraficed so much for me this is the least i can do and i dont want to come off 'b!tchy' by saying No thank you to their offer.

thats a great idea! Could i say What is your budget? and then say i would like to add my own into that? Or i could even offer to pay for all the pieces that go in the pocket fold that way their paying for the actual invites and response cards if you know what i mean

I think that is a reasonable price. I do not know your finance situtation but, do you think you can ask her what she wants to spend and that you could pay the difference?

I think this is your best bet. Offer to pay the difference if you mom thinks it's too much. Good luck!

Re: Very Disappointed!

i dont think you are wrong at all
i would simply say that while you appreciate her offer to pay for them, you would like to get something you actually like
so either get the ones you like or agree on or you will pay for them yourself

it is basically thrown out money for her to pay for something you dont even like
OR
ask her to put $$ towards the ones you like
