FMIL works for South Country School District and she said that the school distributed a posting to all teachers (not sure about parents) stating that a local gang has begun initiating its newest members in a 'new'way.

Apparently, the gang members will stop unsuspecting females when they are leaving the Supermarket, gas station, or ATM and say that they (the woman) dropped a credit card. Then when the woman turns to look, they push her into a car and kidnap her.

FMIL also said that a woman was at a local gas station pumping gas when they attendant began calling to her saying that her credit card did not work. When she went inside to straighten things out, the attendant told her that a man had climbed into the back seat of her car. ALWAYS look in your back seat before you get in your car...I have dont it for years as per my mother when I started driving.

She said that they particularly target women who get gas or are in shopping centers at night (supermarket)

I dont know how true or supported these allegations are (we hear so many false ones everyday through e-mail) but BE CAREFUL and BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS!!!

I am a social worker and I work with a lot of gang members so I wouldnt put it past these people. Just be careful!!!

There are a lot of sick people in this world who do things that leave most people wondering why someone would do such horrible things.

Sadly, it happens every day!

It makes me sick. One girl who used to waitress with me at a night club got attacked at the local gas station getting cigarettes after our shift was over (maybe 5am-ish)? She *only* got hit and robbed, but the cop said that there had been reports of local gangs slashing the achilles tendon (so that the victim could not run away) and kidnapping them.

WOW, how things have changed since I went to school. I was in South Country School District, and there were NO gangs when I went to school. How disappointing how the youth is turning out these days.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I won't be getting gas by my mothers house anymore. I will have to give my family the warning.

Yeah I know about the gas story being around. My mom told it to me as a scare tactic when I was a teenager.

According to my FMIL, the South Country School District isnt doing so hot. Lots of gangs, lots of fighting going on in school. I mean, I know that there are gangs everywhere and fighting in school, but her school is out of control and she is in the MIDDDLE SCHOOL!! She said that they have MORE security in the middle school then in the High School because in the high school the kids are smart and they fight off school property where they cant be broken up. Kids in the middle school cant drive yet, so they just fight in school. So sad how things are changing.

and I just got something in the mail for an administrative job in that school district! They wanted me to interview...luckily I passed on it!!!!

Unfortunately, gangs are in all schools and all towns, pretty much!
I remember when I taught in Great Neck we had meetings about gang activity in the Middle School!
Sure, it's not as extreme as some of the other schools, but there's no way to avoid it these days.
