I am somewhat overwhelmed by all of this wedding 'stuff'. My fiance and I just got engaged in March and we have already made appointments at several reception halls just to start the planning process.
I noticed that many couples visited 10-15 reception venues and I just don't think that we will be able to fit that many into our schedules.
We are planning to invite 200 people, the bulk of my fiance's family will be coming from MA, and we are looking for a Saturday evening reception in March of 2008. We are hoping to pay for the entire wedding ourselves and spend appx $30,000 for everything.
We have seen (and love) Villa Lombardi's, and we will also be visiting: The Meadow Club, Leonards of Great Neck, Larkfield Manor and the Riviera.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for reception sites? I have been to weddings at Windows on the Lake, the Mediterranean Manor, the Watermill and the Coral House all in the last year and can attest to their food and location but not necessarily pricing.
Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Re: Very new to all this!
Welcome!!! Congrats!!! When you find the right hall - something inside of you will say it's the right place!!! FH and I looked at 5-6 halls before booking the last hall. Do what feels right - if you plan on getting married in a church (at least RC), make sure you set the date with them first - nothings worse than p i s s i n g off the priest that will be marrying you by booking the hall first!

Welcome and congrats! Happy Planning!
I only visited one, cause I knew since before I met FH that it was the place for me. Good luck with everything. If you need help with other vendors don't hesitate to ask!

Congrats and Welcome!
You can add me to the list of girls who didnt visit 10-15 halls. I have known where i wanted my reception for the longest time. I went to one place and booked on the spot! I dont have the time or patience to go to that many places. I always try to do research on LIW before I am booking a vendor, you will get so many helpful tips and may not have to go to so many places before finding what is right for you! Good Luck!!!

Congrats and welcome. Just remember you can negotiate just about anything for your wedding. From your dress price to your reception hall. Plus some vendors are more willing to give you a better price if you pay cash, i.e. the florist, photographer. Good luck!
