Very personal:Did anyone opt NOT to get the amnio test?
I looked back at old posts and so far everyone who posted seems to have gone with the amnio. Anyone decide not to?

You can FM me on this if you don't want to post it on the boards.

We didn't need one, but I would have gone with one. I dont' want to necessarily discuss the personal reasons on the board, but I can say it would have been very important for me to know the situation I might be facing, and any options I had to mull over. I would also have wanted to have been as educated as possible.

Re: Very personal:Did anyone opt NOT to get the amnio test?
Hi Sue! How are you feeling? I'm opting not to get it. My doctor doesn't recommend that I have one done and my husband doesn't think I should either. My test results came back stating that I have a very low risk of having a baby with DS and Trisomy 18. I'm 26 and I'll still be 26 when I give birth (actually on the verge of 27). So my doctor says the chances that I'll have a miscarriage and what not from getting an amnio is much greater when compared to my risk level of having a baby with DS. HTH.

Isn't there a simple blood test they can give you to see how things are looking? How come they didn't offer me that? Is it only for people who decide they WOULD get an amnio if needed?

I did a Nuchal Translucency Ultrasound (measures thickness of fluid in baby's neck) with a blood test. It's similar to the triple marker test but more advanced. The blood test was done regardless if I was contemplating of doing the amnio or not.

I just turned 35. Is there a simple blood test that I can have done instead of going for the amnio?

Sue-
I opted not to find anything out. I declined the AFP test (blood test) and in which I also declined any amnio. I have a BS in Biotech so I am fairly familiar genetics and everything associated with these tests. For me, it wouldn't matter what the results were, so I decided against it.

Sue... On that last thread I told you all about the AFP test that I took..
I didnt have an amnio.. I'm only 32 and my afp test came back Negative..
there are lots of false positives, but a negative is usually acurate

How come my dr didn't even mention AFP blood test? Do you think its only offered for people who are within a certain age group?

Sue, I think it's your age (obviously no offense!) that is prescribing the amnio. When you are under 35, they do the protein test (AFP) to screen for problems. If there is a less than something chance, they forego the amnio. The risks are supposedly higher the older you get of certain diseases.
My sister had 4 children. When she was 35 she had the 4th - she did get the amnio for that.
Let us know how it works out.

Oh, ok. I was wondering why everyone else was taking that other test and they didn't even mention it to me. Thanks.
