I posted a few days ago about my wedding dress situation. I bought a dress from a store going out of business for $350. I found another dress that I LOVED more because I felt that I wasnt in love with the first one anymore. Soooo anyway I told my mom just now about it- she was the one who came shopping with me for it. I told her that I found another dress and she went off!!! She said that she was extremely hurt and shocked that I would do this and that she thinks it's INSANE and OBSCENE that I would want another wedding dress. She was saying that it's just a wedding and the dress is just a dress. She said she shared a moment and now the moment is gone. Then she pretty much hung up on me and said she couldnt talk about it anymore. I feel so upset about this. I didnt do this to hurt my mom at all. I just couldnt wear a dress that I didnt love anymore. I asked her if she would come with me to get the other dress and she said no. I dont know what to do. I am so upset by this. Thanks for listening!!

That's how my mom was when I found my second dress. She came around over time, but that was 3 months later. If you want the dress you may have to find a way to pay for it yourself, just let your mom cool off and eventually it won't matter as much.

Wow 3 months!! I guess I didnt expect her to react so strongly. I definitely plan on paying for it myself. How did she finally come around??

im sorry to hear that ... would you consider wearing them both? one for the ceremony and one for the reception? that way it wont be like your not wearing the one you picked out with her ... but i would give her some time to cool down but then i would explain how i felt about the other dress ... she will understand ... just give her some time

Re: VERY Upset-Need advice
Is she upset because she paid for the dress or because she felt slighted that you find something else when she wasn't there?

She said that she is really hurt because she felt that we shared a moment when I bought the first dress. She also thinks that it's a waste of money to buy a second dres...she was like how different can a dress be.

She will come around. Once she sees you in the dress I am sure she will feel differently. Remeber it is your day. This is just one of the bumps along the way.

Sorry your mom was upset but maybe she just needs some space. I know that my mom was shocked by my second dress they are used to traditional things and dont understand the difference between weddings when they got married and now! Give her time she will come around. Good luck! HTH

We were having a lot of issues in our relationship that the wedding made worse and one day I wrote her an email explaining how I felt about things and after that she calmed down because she realized how important everything was to me (including the new dress). So first I sent her pictures of it and eventually she came with me to pick it up from the store and once she saw me in it that kind of sealed the deal so that not she just doesn't care anymore.

Did she come with you when you first ordered it? The problem is that I need to order the dress now in case it takes a while to come in. I waited to order it because I was hoping my mom would come with me. She said she will NOT come with me a second time...so I'm not sure what to do.

Maybe you could do something with the first dress that makes her feel like a part of it - like could you decide to donate it somewhere together? And emphaasize to her that the moment is still there - that you will always remember first seeing yourself in a dress and veil why she was there. . sounds like she cares about that so just say how much she means to you and how much that moment meant - regardless of the dress you ended up with.
