We went to photographers this weekend and we believe that we found the one we want to use, but I don't know if I should get a video or not? My fiance doesn't really want one... he feels that all the memories will be in our head in the future and that we will never really watch it. He also feels that there is some sort of mystique while looking at the pictures, because then you are wondering what was really going on at the time. I always thought of having a video, but then when I was watching one, I was laughing at it because it seemed to be obtrusive and the people just looked funny. I don't know what to do. I'm trying not to go too overboard, since my 'in-laws' will be paying for it, and it will cost about $2K... I want one and then I don't. What does everyone think? And for those of you who already have your videos... how often do you watch it?
IMO I think you should get a video. We were not going to at the beginning but then decided we would (b/c of lots of people telling us to). I can tell you I couldn't be happier. Our wedding was almost 2 months ago and we are ANXIOUSLY awaiting our video. We CANNOT WAIT to see it. The wedding goes by so quickly and there are so many thing syou miss throughout the day.
If you look around you can definately get one for under $2000

Re: Video or no?
I've never heard of anyone who regretted getting the video. I've also heard brides who didn't really want one at first, and then were so happy when they got it. I think you should go for it!

Re: Video or no?
We are the opposite, we are not getting it because everyone says we should but of all the people I know who have gotten it, they can count on one hand the number of times they have watched it and some have been married for 10 years or more! I am thinking of getting a film student to tape the ceremony. Jennyg just did this and I thought it was a good compromise. I honestly just dont see how it can be worth 1500+ But again this is just my opinion!

Re: Video or no?
IMO - I would get it - Only becuase the wedding goes so fast you cant really remember everything ( you miss most of it - So I am told)....
Good Luck with your decision.

Re: Video or no?
We are spending a lot on photography so that our day is captured the way we want it remembered. Neither of us are fans of videos - I think they border on cheesey but that's JMO. My BIL is taping our ceremony - my FBIL will videograph throughout the reception, I'm sure.
It's all personal - to us, photographs tell the story the way we want it to so that a video is unnecessary.

Re: Video or no?
I'd have to say I would be so upset if I didnt have my video, just so different to relive it again than pictures. Bellarino did a fabulous job on mine btw.

Re: Video or no?
The video is priceless. If it seems to bothersome for the reception, atleast have your vows/ceremony covered. You would not regret looking back and viewing them with the children oneday.

Re: Video or no?
definitely VIDEO!...pictures can only give you an 'idea' of how it was..video can bring the memory to life and it can be shown to your children and grandchildren, it's wonderful...

Re: Video or no?
I definately say yes to the video. We weren't going to get one at first but then we decided to go ahead with it. I am so glad we did because we love our video. I got married Feb. 2003 and I have watched my video about 25 times already (that's how much I love it). Even though our photographer was wonderful, there are just some things you cannot catch with still photographs like you can with the video.

Re: Video or no?
definetly want one. I look at it like this....you have memories, but they are never 100%. I know for me, I am always saying I wish I had more videos when I was a kid. Of course I have the memory, but would like to 'relive' it over again. my FH does not see the need either, but I am getting one, and I know many say it's a big regret you can't take back.

Re: Video or no?
Absolutely if you can afford it, and even if you can't, try to work it in. Maybe a college kid in a film program can do it. People aren't around forever and its nice to see them moving about on a video as compared to just a picture- you can hear their voice.

Re: Video or no?
I really didn't want video. I thought it was a bit cheesy and saw lots of videos with drunk people and cutesy graphics. I spoke to friends of mine who didn't have it and they said it is their one regret because the day goes by so quickly. I have to say that there are lots of cheesy video people who still go around and get comments from everyone at the wedding and are always in the way so I wouldn't ever go with a video crew. Bliss seemed fabulous when i went and I will probably book them. I think they do a very good job and seem to have great taste and judgment. Just my opinion. bliss changed my mind about wedding videos having to be cheesy.

Re: Video or no?
Everyone I talk to tells me I will regret not having a video, but we just cant afford it. We are trying to get a house and keep our costs down as much as possible and although I do want one, it just isnt in our budget. We even have a very small package for pictures. I'm sure that years ago before people made videos and spent a million dollars on pictures that they had lovely weddings and memories that lasted a lifetime. Besides, Im sure there will be so many people taking pictures we will see everything. We are having cameras at every table, we got them CHEAP!

Re: Video or no?
Get the video--you won't regret it. A girlfriend of mine recently had a girls night for the people in her wedding and showed her comlpeted video--it was like watching a movie. The quality and editing were awesome and it really captured some moments beautifully (like the groom crying as she walked down the aisle). The company did two videos for her: 1) One was a full length feature event with special effects and fmaily/baby/honeymooon photos and 2) the other was a short and sweet version of the first so that it's easier to show people who just want to see the highlights. I think it would be better to have it and be either be crazy or soso about it, than to regret having nothing after your wedding.
