Video or No Video...need advice

Video or No Video...need advice

So I am not sure what to do about having a videographer at the wedding. I originally did not plan for video at all in my budget, but then I thought I should at least check out the prices. I don't want to regret not having done a video but at the same time the price quotes that I have been getting are crazy. I did find a few videographers that will come and shoot the wedding and do a basic edit for a reasonable price, but it is still not in my budget and would be something that I would have to charge.

I am really up in the air about this whole thing because I know that I will never watch the video, but should I have it for my kids? Will pictures be enough? Should I ask one of my guests to just video the Ceremony and the toasts?

ahhhh....so conflicted!!

originally I didnt want one ... then my friend got married and I couldnt attend and so when we met up to catch about it after I was all like oh let me see your video and she didnt get one.. so she told me it was the biggest mistake she did for the wedding - not getting one. She said that she was running around all night and didnt really see everything and feels like she missed out. She said if she would have gotten the video she would have been able to see it all and relive it but she cant do that now.

so I booked my video after that! lol It makes sense and I dont want to miss out on anything that I am paying for

I feel the same way. I dont want to regret it but at this point and with my budget constraints I dont know what to do either.

someone suggested asking a friend or fam to do a home video style recording. I mean personally I dont need top notch editing and production so this may not be a bad idea.

are you the type that would watch the video? I am, so that is why I really want one but the extra 1,000+ bucks is a killer

that's such a hard decision. i KNOW!! we ended up getting one, but only because someone told me how sad they were that they didn't have it. i'm different though...i think i'd watch it all the time. so that's why we decided to get it! it's so hard because money's tight, economy stinks and no one has a money tree in their backyard! GL making your decision!

Originally, I didn't want one BUT my Sister who got married in the late 80's had videos made. Yes, the ol' VHS. Anyways, even though VHS's are obsolete my Neice and Nephews LOVE watching the video. They see their Aunt Michele (Me) as a flower girl, their Grandparents young and most of all, their Parents. They LOVE it. I am doing this for my kids.

I def. think you should do a video. You always want to look back and re-live the day I also, did not want to spend crazy amounts of money on the video and have chosen a basic package. Id rather spend more money on the pictures- but I do want to have a video to look back at. I think you may regret not having one. You dont have to get a crazy expensive video package.

a video was a must for me..i know i would watch it and would want to show my kids someday, plus it would be nice to see all the things i missed...now in saying that if it does not go into ur budget why not just ask friends and family to pass around a camera so u can still have one

We originally weren't going to spend the money but we decided to do it because we got it as part of a package deal with the photographer, and I am so happy we did. The whole day was a blur and I can't wait to see the footage! Also, I have some elderly relatives who could not come and I cannot wait to show them the video, so they can feel like they are there. My friend's kids love to watch her video too.

If money is the only reason why you are not getting video, perhaps you can find a friend who is good with video and they can film at least the ceremony for you, and maybe the speeches, first dance and cake cutting at the reception? I wouldn't want to burden a guest too much but if you give them time to dance and eat maybe they gladly do it!

we decided no video- in my opinion i want to remember my wedding as i remember it not from a videographers perspective... i don't want to look back on a video and think, 'omg, i look awful! or, 'i look so ridiculous dancing!' also, i have been to weddings where the videographer was totally obnoxious with that big light in your face on the dance floor!

my hair stylist just got married and she said she didn't have a video, i asked her if she regretted it and she said yes. At first i was whatever about the video but after talking to ppl who didn't have it , I want one. Convincing FH is a PITA, he refuses to let me have one, he says we will have a friend do it, but it's not the same!
