Initially, I wasn't going to get one because I just thought it was an unnecessary expense. Then I had an idea to have a videographer shoot the film - but not edit it - and give me the raw footage (thought it would save serious $). Then, I met with Duet and completed the 180 degree turn and contracted for a video. I found myself crying in their showroom, and I couldn't help but envision what MY video would be like. I'm very happy with my decision.
In the end, it's only costing me about $200 (more) to have it fully edited (vs. raw footage). Seeing the way they put it together with the visual effects and music is well worth the money. Plus, they agreed to give us all the raw footage anyway - so we'll be able to watch the whole day and catch the people falling and dancing and stuff.

Any idea if there's something simple out there where they can shoot the ceremony and maybe 1 or 2 hours of the reception?

I don't know about other vendors - but with Duet I booked them for a specific amount of time. So my answer would be yes - they'll do whatever you want them to.

FI's friend is a film major and has video taped his band many times. We know his work is good so he is going to do the video for us. We really only want the ceremony, after the church, 1st dance, and cake cutting. But I am glad that we are having some of it video taped.
IMO do the video, even if it is an unedited version, you don't want to regret it later.

I was against it as they can be expensive but then a good friend of mine said to me that she was glad to have one as there were so many things at the wedding that she just didn't see or know about. After thinking about it FH and I decided that we would have one. I hope that this helps....
