I am torn - should I spend the money on a videographer? I haven't chosen one yet, but I can gaurantee that it will be at least $1200. We are paying for our entire wedding and we've upgraded our photography package by $1000 for the digital albums... Do you think that we should put the $1200 towards saving for a house or get that videographer? I have heard so many mixed thoughts about videography. Some say they don't miss not having it and others say, 'THANK GOD I did' HELP!!! What are your thoughts?

Re: Videographer - Is it worth it?
I think it's totally worth it! We were able to give a copy to each set of parents, which they love... And we've watched our's a number of times in the past year....it's like reliving the day over and over again.
A friend of mine wasn't going to have a videographer...but at the last minute decided to. A month after she got married, her father died unexpectedly....the last time anyone has video of him was at her wedding - healthy and happy....so it makes it even more special. It a great way to memorialize your day and the ones you love

Re: Videographer - Is it worth it?
well, being the Fiance of a videographer I can't imagine not having one!!! I say yes definitely. it captures everything you miss....parents reactions while you are taking your vows, while you are dancing with them...etc. Some people (like my sister) can look back at their videos' and see deceased family members...(my mom passed three years ago)
I can think of a lot more reason but, I'm at work!!!!!

I'm actually debating this as well, because It's just the two of us. We will see, I guess if you can afford it, go for it.

IMO I think its definately worth it, the video will capture so many great moments that might not be captured otherwise (even in pics)
Im sure if you post your budget on the vendors board or ask for other suggestions you'll find someone willing to work within your budget.
good luck!

I think if you don't you will regret it. you cannot get back the day.

Re: Videographer - Is it worth it?
I just got mine, and it adds SO MUCH. You'll have the pics, but to me the video is as important, if not more for remembering the day. You can see when the pictures were taken, and the sounds and images from all of it. It's really wonderful to have.

I agree. I it is totally worth it. We got to see and relive the whole day over. Also, 3 1/2 months after the wedding, DH's uncle was murdered and our wedding was the last party he went to so we get to him on it and how happy his family (especially his sons since they were in the BP) was.

I say totally worth it. (of course only if you can afford it). I read you are debating about putting $1,200 towards a house instead but I see it this way. You will eventually remake (earn) that money again for the house but if you decide against the video and change your mind you can't undo that. I know I definetly want to hear my voice and everything years from now. I think the video captures many emotional moments you won't always have in your pics. HTH.

Re: Videographer - Is it worth it?
This is a tough question.
HOUSE versus Wedding Video???
Of course, your house would be more valuable.
But, I think there are a *few* wedding must haves. Such as:
ceremony music (I'm not talking any kind of trio, just an organ or any sort of music playing while the brides walks down the aisle)
photographer- gotta have pictures!
And, a video.
Other than that, put the money toward your house!

Re: Videographer - Is it worth it?
we just saw some raw footage for the first time... and omg... we missed so much of our wedding. so much detail, so much effort went into that you should get the viedo so you can relive those moments.
we saw our cocktail hour for the first time(we werent' there - pictures) and i wish i was there even if i was a guest cause it was aweseome
its a must have... 1200 does somthing for a house but not enough to make a huge difference

I say yes. The day will go very fast and there will be things you will not notice or remember. The video can be a great thing to have to remember this wonderful day.

Re: Videographer - Is it worth it?
I think it is soooo worth. After everything is all said and done, there are only a few things you have left. So many memories are captured on video and some that you might not have seen the day of. Scott and I are happy we got it. Unfortunately Scott's mom passed a way a few months after the wedding and she looks great on the video. We'll have this moment forever.

Re: Videographer - Is it worth it?
IMO - YES! I was so nervous during our first dance I can hardly remember it - we took lessons so it was so nice to have that captured for us to look back on! Our BP got to send us well wishes and we laughed hysterically at what they said to us. Also, the videographer captured a lot of moments that we missed - we were elsewhere on the dance floor. We haven't gotten the final cut version back yet, but I'm really looking forward to that too- we're giving them dating pictures of us, engagement shots, the wedding video then HM pix - I can't wait to look at it from years to come, and show our kids too! For us, it wasn't even an option not to get one, and I'm so glad we did get one!

Re: Videographer - Is it worth it?
IMO--totally worth it ---we book ours with 4 weeks to go to the date of our wedding
we were torn on the issue and did not want to spend the $$$$$
I am so glad we did get the video---our guy was much more reasonable and we got his base package (about 700) and it was totally worth it ---I couldn't imagine not having it
he was one of our favorite vendors
FM if you would like the detail
