videographers...yes or no?

Original post by Dana

I cannot make up my mind on whether it is worth the extra money to get a videographer to tape something that will probably only be watched twice in my life, once right after the wedding and again 50 years from now. Is it worth it or not?

If you can fit it into your budget, go for it. I agree with everything that has been said

I was going to get raw footage, but when I saw what the videos look like today, I changed my mind. I am so glad I did!

I am having some family members do it for us. I know a lot of people say it's worth the money to have a professional do it, but I personally don't agree with that. If we watch our video more than twice in our life I will be shocked. If you guys are into watching things than go for it. But if you can't see yourself watching the video more than a couple of times I would say save the money and ask a friend/family member to do it for you.

We didn't pay for professional video, but I had one of my bridesmaids film everything on her DV (which was a bit irriating sometimes, but she got a lot of nice footage and some amazing stills from her camera, which are posted on my vendor review)
My uncle also taped everything using his DV recorder and it was nice to watch the next day.

Both were good enough for me and with the software available nowadays, you could very easily put together a decent CD, music and all.
Time consuming effort though, so you have to decide how much you really want a 'professional' video.

I was really planning on not getting a video myself(just have a friend record it or something), but then my mom saw a video (I was really ill last week & she went to some photography appointments for me) & she cam home saying I really need to get one(she had been really against before). She brought up all the points that have been mentioned in this post, so today I started surfing the Videography websites & viewing their clips & now I really do want one. It really seems to capture emotion in a way I just don't think photos do. Even if we only watch on our anniversary, its something I really think I'll appreciate having. I don't want to go over board(it was not in my original budget), so I plan on really shopping around(I actually really enjoyed the Wild Rose clips & I know they are highly recommended on this board).

I am getting a video for all the reasons mentioned above, but my brother didn't have one. We assigned a family friend to the video camera and he got all the major highlights- so that is another way to go if you don't have room in your budget.

We are not having video. The truth, I find it intrusive, but that is only my opinion. As a stage musician I am used to be taped in concerts, but in personal events I rather spend in good pictures. FH shares my point. But is you love filming, and you can go for it, do it.

I think it is definitely worth it. Several of my friends did it and are happy they did. I went with Wild Rose Video..they are awesome and a vendor on here.

I did not get the wedding taped. Some people brought their video cameras and taped if they wanted to. I have no problem not having a professional tape. I am so turned off by videos... I am the 1st to run away when I see one coming. I am a renegade- I didn't do table cameras either. It wasn't a money thing- more of an ambiance thing.

I am also not sure of getting a video--I definitely want one but since we are on a budget I am searching for a good but inexpensive one, I've heard a lot of great things about Wild Rose--does anyone know if they have affordable/cheap packages?
