Is everyone doing a vienesse hour? i feel like I dont want my party to empty out (would be in a seperate room). I know the vienesse is nice- but if you've seen one- you've seen them all- for the most part. I would maybe opt for elaborate pastry and stuff on the tables. what do you think?

Re: Vienesse?
We're not doing it. First of all we are going to have so much food, plus Wedding cake, and chocolate mousse, that I think it would just be a waste of money for us. All of the ones I;ve seen are pretty but when you look at them you'll see a few cakes with like one slice out of them. It just seems like a waste of food and money. JMO

I like dessert better than dinner. so we are having it
Me too!
A perfect meal for me would consist of desserts and appetizers, which is why we're attending our cocktail hour and having a vienesse hour. We added an extra hour onto our wedding, so it won't cut into the partying.

I am not a fan of the VH b/c I don't like watch all of the old people fighting with one another to get x thing first or everyone sticking their fingers into the food. So what we opted to do was have chocolate covered strawberries as well as cookies on every table and every person will receive a plated desert of 5 different things and a slice of wedding cake. That way everyone gets to eat what they want. Lisa

LOL this came up a few weeks ago and when I mentioned old people fighting for a stale cannoli, someone got their panties in a bunch saying that people don't behave that way. WELL THEY DO!!! I am glad I am not the only person who has ever seen that. Thank you.

Our place doesn't charge extra, but what they do is day affairs get a dessert trio for every guest (that you choose..) and night affairs get the vienesse... she often recommends doing the trio at night, because the vienesee kinda puts a halt to the party... I wanna boogie! I'll eat cake later
My wedding is at night at the Carlyle, so I get both options. I'm having a hard time deciding what to do. I'm leaning towards getting i, and not having it announced that it's ready, and hoping my band will keep everyone on the dance floor.

Re: Vienesse?
Goldi- Yes they do!!!! I worked in DC for a big name law firm (white shoe type) and some of the people who worked there were extremely powerful in the government or had been under former presidents and they were usually the ones doing it. I saw the named partner digging the little shrimps out of the paellaia with his bare fingers. eww. Then he asked me if I wanted any and opened his hand to give me some. It took so much of me to say no thanks and not laugh. Lisa

Isnt CH kinda like the VH except it is at the beginning of the night?? If anything,,,I WOULD think that people would be fighting over food then since they will most likely be starving....(not really fighting)
Either way,,you cant wrong!! Having a VH is a personal preference and some love it and some dont!!

IMO, by the time the vienesse hour comes out, everyone is stuffed. For me, there was no sense in us spending all that money on dessert, especially if our guests are eating HUGE meal before it.

We are not having a vienesse hour...Instead, we are doing the vienesse platters on every table.
