I was wondering if any of you is having it or has had it at a wedding.
I have toyed with the idea, though at Coral House it is probably not necessary since you get so much food, though I must admit it is tempting.
I think it is a great presentation, but is it a waste of food?
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks.

Re: Viennese hour
I chose against having the Viennese hour but instead chose to have my reception hall place a tray of cookies and pastries on each table. I felt that that plus the wedding cake and the ice cream they already give the guests is enough food. Good luck!

Re: Viennese hour
Although it always look nice, I know every wedding I go to that has one I never have any simply because I am already stuffed to the brim with food, cake, and drinks. I, personally dont think it is necessary. I don't think people will miss it or expect it.

Re: Viennese hour
If you decide to have the Viennese, a really great idea that a friend of mine did was provide cake boxes and wax paper on a table set up right near the displays. The guests took a box, took a piece of wax paper, and took home the goodies..instead of letting the catering hall throw it all away! The boxes had labels with their initials on them also, it was really nice...and a great way to avoid the waste that usually accompanies this.

Re: Viennese hour
We decided against the Viennese hour because it was just going to be too much. So like Tanbride, we asked Floral Terrace to put Cookies and Greek and Italian pastries on each table.

We arent doing the Viennese hour, its nice though. We are serving choc covered strawberries and the cake. that should be enough.

Re: Viennese hour
We're not having it. I really think it will be just too much food. The hall is going to serve a dessert and some pastries and cookies per table and the cake. I think that's plenty of sweets.

Re: Viennese hour
Just wanted to add...another reason for not doing the Viennese, they have to close your dance floor in most places for it. If you paid for a band or dj, it really puts a damper on things and takes away all that dancing time!

Re: Viennese hour
Personally - I LOVE the viennese hour, but we cannot afford it. My hall charges $15 per person for it! So, we are having cake and pasty/cookie/canoli trays on every table, chocolate covered strawberries and a coffee/cordial bar. PJCC gives us so much food that I know this is plenty of dessert for everyone!

Re: Viennese hour
I personally think it is a waste. I had my reception at Villa Lombardi's, and you get full after the cocktail hour. But they had pastries, such as cream puffs and cannoli on the table along with the cake. I thought that was enough.

I am getting married at the Coral House & just having the mini one. I think the full one is not necessary.

Re: Viennese hour
I had one. The vienesse was in a separate room and although prior I didn't really think it was necessary it was a huge hit esp. with my DH's Italian family. People had the option of leaving and going to the other room for dessert. I thought no one would. Everyone was saying how much food they ate all night. I even had the DJ keep playing good music...but I have to say everyone went. My reception hall made sure people left the vienesse room promptly and returned to the party. They also gave us three boxes of desserts and pastries to take with us. We gave them out at our brunch the next morning!
I now say if you can afford it and it won't interrupt the party..go for it.

Re: Viennese hour
I think that we're going to upgrade the cake instead of viennese, although FMIL is really pushing for it.

Re: Viennese hour
i think people always like it, but unless it's in a different room, it takes away from the partying/dancing....i couldn't have it in a different room so i decided against it b/c i had paid so much $$$ for the band, i wanted to get the most out of them...

Re: Viennese hour
My reception site didnt even offer something like that but at other parties I have to say that it definitely puts a damper on an elegant party. Having the guests wait in line to get their own desserts just seems off for a formal affair.

Re: Viennese hour
At the Harbor Club, they have boxes right at the table and basically encourage you to just pack a box for yourself. It's almost like having an extra favor!

Re: Viennese hour
i had it at the fox hollow and everyone RAVED about it! they did such a nice job and had such a great selection of desserts, it was really nice + the fact that they held it outside (same place we held our cocktail hr) was a hit. we had such beautiful weather, i am sure that helped. it didn't break up the party as people kept on dancing (dj was told to continue playing)... and although it was open the full hour, the people that were out there realized that the party would soon be ending so came back into the room to finish up. some people said they were having such a good time that they didnt even realize there was a vienese hour going on outside! i think it gives such a nice finishing touch!

Re: Viennese hour
As of now, we are having a full Viennese table, but for half an hour. I am thinking of making it a full hour, but I am not sure. Either way, we are also having boxes with our names on the so people can take some home with them.
