I'd like to get your opinions...FH and I decided we were not going to have one but now we are contemplating having it. I am wondering what's the consensus out there. We felt that it was an hour less to party and our place provide a Touch of Vienna(we paid extra for this as well) in which they bring cookies, pastries, and cakes to the guests' tables besides the wedding cake and they have the cordials as well. We still not sure though.... We have been to many weddings and those that have it, it's great and it becomes the highlight of the night...and for others that had not had it, it's a great wedding as well. Love to hear your opinions Please..... Especially from those that are already married that had it or didn't have it. Are you glad you didn't have it or wished you did etc.. Thanks Everyone !!!
ETA>> I was also wondering if money was not an issue...would you have or you won't. Please vote. I see a lot of posts where they will not have it because of the $$$$ and I'm trying to eliminate that option. Thanks.

Re: Viennesse Hour
I didn't even consider it. We are having a rolling dessert cart and I think that is enough. I don't like the way it looks to have guests wait on a line - JMO

I didn't have it and I don't regret it. It was just too much $$$$ and I had already gone over budget on so many other things.

Here Here! I think it ends up being a free for all. I much prefer a dessert cart or even petit fours and wedding cake. I have yet to see a Viennese table/hour that is classy. People knocking each other over for a cannoli is not appealing to me in any way shape or form. I once went to a wedding where they had black and white cookies at the viennese table with the brides name on the white part and the groom's name on the black part. I thought 'Note to self... NO BLACK AND WHITE COOKIES AT MY WEDDING!!! JMO.

Re: Viennesse Hour
We are not having it...waste of money imo and I also don't like having my guest wait on long lines to get a pastry...we're just having a served dessert for each guest as well as the cake

Re: Viennesse Hour
I didn't have an hour, but I did have a mini-Viennese (where they brought it to the tables pastries, fruit, cookies, etc.) and wanted a different wedding cake, other than the one that the hall was providing (so I put my money towards that). I thought it worked out well.

We're not having one -- it's way over our budget. Plus, Villa's gives ice cream with the cake, along with pastries on every table. There will be plenty of food without it.

I've been to many weddings and I have never seen people knocking each other and neither I had waited on line either. I think it has a lot to do as to how it is setup. I think that would be totally distasteful to knock someone over for a pastry. I don't think any of my guests would do such a thing either.

Same here - couldn't afford it and we are getting gelato and pastry trays with the cake...to me the Vienesse would have been overkill.

we are not doing the viennesse hour but we are having the chocolate fountain. the fh offers enough food for everyone. including cake and a dessert. so enough is enough

Re: Viennesse Hour
Although I haven't gotten married yet we did opt for the Viennesse hour. We also debated it for a while trying to figure out the pros and cons. What pushed us into getting it was when I asked FMIL and she said 'Oh, but that's the best part'. For me it's the CH, for others it could be the VH.
From the weddings I have been to not all had VH, which I didn't mind. But I thought the ones that did were a nice suprise. Personally I'm not the type of person who looks forward to it or even expects it, but I do enjoy it.

I've seen it happen. It does depend on how you have it set up. If it is done as a long table wheeled on to your dance floor - that isn't my style. I have seen them done in catering places where a wall of the ballroom opens up to another room (typically the same room used for the cocktail hour) and it is spaced out and roomy. I just dont like it.

We will not be adding a viennesse hour, it is too much 'extra' $$

Re: Viennesse Hour
Where is your wedding location? I know some places do the Viennese and it's to DIE for. Crest Hollow's is GORGEOUS. At my sister's wedding the rolled it all out on carts with sparklers. it was so pretty and a real focal point (my sister added an hour to her reception)...another CHCC wedding had it off in a side partof the room..not as exciting, but it didn't take away from the party at all because it was way off to the side.
I've heard Sand Castle and Russos have Viennese to die for.
I'm getting it at NRC. The pictures look amazing and they do it back in the cocktail hour room, so it's not interrupting the party.
For me, I love the Viennese, it's my favorite part!
But there are cones, one, it's at the end and people are already full/tired, people may ahve already left, and it can break up the party, dependingon how it's presented.

Re: Viennesse Hour
Although I do remember the Viennesse Hr at my cousins wedding at Villa Lombardis was Unbelievable , I do not want to spend the extra $$$ for it...plus I would much rather have the chocolate fountain now that i know what it is

Re: Viennesse Hour
We had so much food already, I wasn't sure how many people would really eat much of it, and it was a lot of money to add to the already growing budget! Our other factor was that we had a Sunday night wedding that ended at 11:00, I didn't think many people would want to hang around for another hour if they had to work the next day.
We went to a wedding shortly after ours at Villa Lombardi's that had it. We thought it was OK, but not worth whatever extra they paid for it. Also, the VH started at 12:30 am. It was so late and I don't think many people ate a lot of the stuff that was put out- the Bride and Groom ended up taking so many boxes of stuff home. They offered it to people when they were leaving, but the stuff was boxed up in large cake sized boxes, so not many people were taking stuff home either. I would ask for smaller boxes if you think people might take it home with them.

We are having just the chocolate fountain instead of the whole hour of stuff.

Re: Viennesse Hour
you can't go wrong but i think what you explained about the TASTE of Vienna sounds like plenty... sometimes the Viennese hour just becomes too much many guests are just stuffed we are not having it but we are having the chocolate fountain if you and your FH and families love deserts than GO FOR IT!!

Re: Viennesse Hour
We are having a VH and I couldn't imagine my wedding ending without one..( I loooooove sweets)
My hall offers an unbelievable spread for the VH and there will be soooo much to choose from that my guests will not have to wait on line...
Plus....the VH is an added hour to your reception so it's not like your losing time.
