~*Villa Lombardi's Thread*~

I don't see too many Villa brides on here..I know its not everyone's #1 choice but it had been my dream place since I was a little girl :) ...believe it or not I wanted East Wind, he wanted Majestic Gardens & this was a place we both agreed on :) I guess being 100% Italian, & marrying one as well.. this would be of course, THE PERFECT place for us to have our wedding!! ...& as we all know the food is amazing!! haha

I wanted to start a thread of future or past bride's to share good or bad experiences to help us :)
Thanks so much!!

My first question..is about the cake..I read on here that we are told it is included in the pricing, only to later find out we only have a few to choose from that are not very attractive & if you dont like those they charge you for an upgrade?? anyone know about this?? & how much is the so called upgrade??

I think its $250 for the upgrade and menu cards, but if you want to design your cake they tell you to go to the and cake designer yourself. I was just going to choose one of their cakes, its not the best but some of them are fairly decent.

I'm not a Villa Lombardi's bride, nor do I know the answer to your question. BUT, I just wanted to say that my best friend got married there in 2005 and it was beautiful! She was VERY happy with everything, and they were very accomodating. Oh, and the food was fantastic.

Re: ~*Villa Lombardi's Thread*~

I'm going there next Friday for my menu planning meeting...the last time I saw the book there were a few decent choices for the cake. At that time, supposedly they had just switched bakeries, again. The impression I was given is that they change bakeries quite often, and was entirely possible would be changed again by the time I would be picking mine out (over a year later).

Back then it was an industrial bakery in Holbrook or Bohemia I want to say....it wasn't a Rolling Pin or Black Forest type where you can walk in as an end user, they just bake for halls/restaurants. We're going to just pick a standard cake since we really don't like cake or care about it that much, plus we're having the Cheesecake Martini Bar so not totally necessary. Plus I heard it was mad expensive to upgrade.

I dont know what bakery they use, but my cake was delicious! The ones you have to choose from arent ugly they are just kind of plain looking. I had my florist decorate mine with flowers. Here's a pic:

Re: ~*Villa Lombardi's Thread*~

Bumping this because I just had my menu appointment on Friday....

The cake selection is still the same as it was when I had went to my initial meeting, and they're, well, lacking to put it nicely. I mean...we didn't book the place for their cakes LOL, but still, I'm a little ehhhhhh with them.

The 'upgraded' cakes are square tiers instead of round, with a bit more embellishment on them, but still mainly just sugar flowers or a ribbon, nothing fancy. You don't get any more choices for cake flavors, fillings, or icing for the upgrades, pretty much just the tiers. I was told $250 for the upgrade.

Cake choices are chocolate devil's food, yellow, or marble pound only. Icing is buttercream or whipped cream only. Buttercream can be regular, chocolate, vanilla, or mocha flavored, but regular and vanilla are the white (wedding) ones. Fillings are also really basic...white chocolate mousse, milk chocolate mousse, dark chocolate mousse, caramel mocha mousse, strawberry, raspberry, buttercream, canolli, chocolate pudding, and I think that's it. You get to pick two fillings, each slice of cake has a layer of each. You're definitely not going to get the fancy cakes you see a lot of other girls posting from other RHs, no red velvet and cream cheese, no rainbow cookie cakes, no fondant, no decoration on the cakes...they definitely look like they're kicking it old school, kwim?

That being said I ended up with a 3 tier cake, with columns separating the tiers...each tier has burgundy sugar flower embellishments, and the top tier is full of the burgundy flowers. Regular buttercream icing, chocolate devil's food cake with raspberry and dark chocolate mousse fillings. Ehh...it's alright, but it's not like a WOW cake, but I don't really like cake or care about the cake that much, so it's not a super big deal. HTH.

aww thanks Ali! I'm sure it will be beautiful & that's all I need is sugar flowers on it that will be fine. Really like you said we didn't book there for the cake haha but at the showcase back in April FH & tasted both they had there & they were amazing just like the food..I just wanted to make sure that I could even have that on it..I didn't want plain white haha Thanks so much again & can't wait to see pics!!!

I haven't seen the cake selections yet but I guess I will worry about that once I get to it. I'm a Villa Lombardi bride myself and I'm getting married 11/11/11. I'm hoping to do an outside ceremony weather permitting of course. If any past brides can send me pictures of the inside ceremony site I'd really appreciate it. My bm was really great her name is Jenny in case anyone who hasn't booked there would like to. She is amazing!!!

I had my reception at Villa Lombardi's last year. The cakes are basic and anything you want added you have to provide.

The previous poster who posted a picture that is their basic cake. Mine was the same only ivory frosting instead of white. Flowers have to be provided by you or your florist.

Upgrades start at I believe 250 and go up from there. Also if you decide to bring your cake in, you do not get money back AND you have to pay a per person cake cutting fee.

Oh and a little word of advice about the cake....make sure they give you the top tier when you leave! They never gave it to us!
