VIP Studio Brides - Deposit Q??

We've been working with John the last couple of weeks to customize a package for us.

Did you put down deposit ($400) to hold your date before you actually saw/reviewed a contract???

We met with John twice. Once to view albums and the second to sign the contract. We discussed the package we wanted, had modifications made to the package which were written on the contract and then we left the deposit.

I am not a VIP studio bride, however I have NEVER heard of such a thing

$400 is a lot to ask for with nothing in writing. I dont' want to make you nervous. Who knows, maybe they do work that way.

I sent a $400 check with the signed contract, that is the standard deposit but i would make sure you had the contract.

I gave him a $400 deposit to hold the date and didn't sign a contract until I was on LI a couple of months later. I had no problem with that.

We went twice. The second time we finalized the package we wanted, contract was written and deposit given.

JMO -- but i wouldn't sign anything i didn't read and i wouldn't pay money without having what i was paying it for in writing. If you do pay, make sure you put it on a credit card so that there is a record. (they could fold tomorrow and cash your check, but if they defraud you and you pay with credit card then the credit company has to cover it - but you are not responsible (in most states)

BTW - i am looking at VIP studios too. nothing against them, i just think it is smart to always be careful. John was very nice and laid back so i don't think his intention is to do anything sketchy, but i don't think he realizes what he is asking you to do.

Did John deposit the check that you gave him? Just wondering b/c we booked with him 2 months ago and he hasn't deposited it yet. I called him and he said it usually takes about a week to clear. That was 3 weeks ago. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else...

When we made the decision to book with John, he said we could just mail him the $400, and he would mail us the contract. Although I felt a sort of trust with him, we were not comfortable doing that (with any vendor). So I shlepped back out to Port Jeff (from Long Beach - ugh), dropped off the check and took home the contract...

I booked John too. He did ask us to do the same thing with the deposit but we explained that weren't comfortable with that and he was fine with it. Instead, I emailed him everything that I wanted and that we had verbally agreed on, and he wrote it up on a contract and sent it out to us. After we reviewed what he wrote, we then sined the contract and sent it back with the deposit. The rest is history....Good luck!!
