I'm interviewing for teaching jobs in northern VA. I already got one in Leesburg, but I've gotten calls from Sterling and Alexandria schools. I'd love to work in Alexandria b/c the schools there are much more multicultural (I teach in NYC now, so that's what I love!) I've gotten 3 interview calls from Alexandria and I'm so excited, but I've been told that it will be the commute from h*ll from Reston (which is where we are planning to move).
Do any of you know if this is true? Any advice?
Thanks!!

Re: Virginia Girls - I have a question
I lived in VA for 4 years...however, I don't know where Reston is.
But, the commute there was a bit better than commuting to NYC, but still a b*tch. When traveling anywhere close to DC, I found it quite difficult during 'rush hour'.
On the up side, I wish I was back there, I absolutely loved it!

Re: Virginia Girls - I have a question
Yup, driving from Reston to Alexandria is not fun. I drive from Sterling to D.C. every morning (Sterling is just west of Reston) and luckily I have someone to commute with so we can HOV. If you can commute with someone you're in luck. If not, get used to sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic! You can also metro, but there are no metro stations near Reston so you'd have to drive or take the bus to one. Then when you get to Alexandria, depending on where your school is, you may have to cab from the metro station (or walk if it's not far).
Good luck!

Re: Virginia Girls - I have a question
I'd probably have to agree with the others. I live in Arlington and work in the district and my commute isn't bad at all...takes me about 20 minutes to drive. Do you have any option to LIVE in Alexandria instead of Reston? Or even in Arlington or somewhere closer in? You'd be reverse commuting and that would be much nicer than going from Reston to Alexandria... Just a thought!
PS-If you need a realtor for Northern Virginia, let me know...we have a great one!
