Visting reception halls

OK...so i'm wondering ...those of you whose parents are paying for your wedding...did you bring your parents along to reception halls you looked at??? I went to my first one last night and brought both my parents along with us...BIG MISTAKE!!! they were sooo annoying & my dad and i actually wound up in a fight! but now they came to one so they want to come to all the places i visit...and i dont wanna hurt their feelings by telling them they cant come!!! Ahhhhhh! I have 4 appts this weekend to go look at places & they r planning on coming to all of them...i'm going to lose my mind!!!!

I brought fh and my mom. My dad just wants to know how much and where to send the check. I am the third one in the family getting married so my parents are not as involved as they were in the others.

Maybe you should tell them you'd like to narrow it down first b/c it's very overwhelming.....and then you & FH pick out your favorites and bring your parents back? Our parents aren't paying for any of the wedding (except for the RD) so, fortunately we didn't have to worry about getting their opinions on the hall we chose.

Maybe you can position it that you don't want to waste their time going to all the halls together, and that you will bring them on second appointments after you've narrowed down the best ones?

My mom is helping with the hall. I know what you mean!

I took them but I only went to two. I would tell them you want to narrow it down first then you will bring them.

that's what i would do. go thru a bunch first--and then bring them back to your final 2-3 choices ONLY!

if my parents were paying (which they arent) i would only bring them to the ones that i loved....there is no point in bringing them to EVERY one

i went hall 'shopping' my mom and FMIL. we all liked the same place, so it was pretty easy!

maybe u should pick your top 2 and then bring them to see which ones u are deciding between, or pick ur hall and bring them to show them afterwards....

good luck

I looked at 14 halls.

FH saw 6 with me....we only took our parents to see our #1 choice, and luckily they were impressed, and we booked that night.

FH & I went to look at a bunch of halls on our own ... we narrowed it down to the top 2 places and brought both sets of parents with us.

One thing I've learned ... if you ask for opinions, you WILL get them!

Fh and I went to most together-the few he missed while he was at work-my mom and I went to. I agree-I would narrow it down and then take you parents.

I brought my FH and mom to most of them. When it came down to the final 2, my dad tagged along. And yes, he was TOTALLY ANNOYING but he was just trying to do the right thing by us and I appreciate and love him for it. I just wish he could find an unannoying, non-embarassing method for achieving the same result!

You and FH should go and look around, get quotes and after you guys visit them and pick out some that you really like then bring them along. Tell them you feel it would be a waste of time to drag them along if you dont really think youare going to have it at certain ones. Then bring them, it really is amazing what negotiating parents can do!
