Votive placecards - FIRE HAZARD???!

Votive placecards - FIRE HAZARD???!

Ok, so I just bought 100 plain glass votives at Michael's (3 for a dollar through tomorrow) to use as my placecards. I call my mother to tell her about my score and she says, 'Well don't you think that could be a dangerous fire hazard with 100 people walking around with lit candles?'

Ahhh - I just called my hall yesterday with a question so I don't want to call again today. I know other people obviously have done it, don't know about at my hall though.

What do you think? Do you think I should ask or just got with it?

Some additional info: they set up the table with the placecards in the middle of the cocktail hour so I would want them to be lit the entire time. If you don't that's a good idea, do you think it would be better to set them up out of sight in the reception room where someone could light them at the end of cocktail hour and people could take them after they walk in?

TIA!!!

that's why i'm not doing the votive place cards. i think it's beautiful but knowing my family they will burn the place down

but maybe have them light them towards the end of cocktail hour so they don't get so hot.

I heard some places do not allow this not only for fire hazards but those votives can get pretty hot ..guest would have to touch & pick up and have that wax slooshing around..I read some horror stories on the knot many months ago..

most halls dont allow them - if you still want to use them you cant light them . . . its kind of a fire hazard to have those in addition to the candles already on the table usually. . . i really wanted to do them too but my florist told me that no one takes them bc they get too hot - people just look at their table number and remember it

sorry

They do have those fake candles that you can place in them. I think they are a bit expensive but maybe if you search somewhere you can find them at wholesale for a bunch???? battery operated candles

I think this might be specific to the RH. I had asked my BM at the RH about candles and he said as long as they are in a glass holder (like a votive) it's fine.

Don't feel bad to call your RH with questions. What your asking is a valid question and hey your paying them a lot of $$$

I would call your hall. I had the same problem, I bought the votive candle holders and then found out we were not allowed to have them b/c of fire hazard not to mention I would have to have about 140 of them.
We decided on using the battery operated tea lights instead. Try ebay they have the best deal on them if you buy in bulk.

I'm not a fan of of votive place card holders. Who wants to walk around with a lit candle to their table? Besides that....when you blow out the flame it stinks. I hate the way candles smell when you blow em out. Call your hall. But I'm sure you wouldn't like the smell of a burned out wick at your reception. Good Luck.

Our CPs are all candles with votives, to be honest I have been to a couple of weddings that they had votives and there were no worries. If you set them up against a wall for people to pick up after CH and had them lit right before they wouldnt be too hot for people to handle.

i called my hall to see if it was alright..and they said yes...so you may want to call and find out

if they say no...you can definitely use them in your RH...

My hall said I can use them but she said it looks nice in pics btut is not practical - I'll have to think about it - I really don't feel like being the jerk returning 100 little pieces of glass to Michael's!!!

On the upside I did get the frames I plan to use for table #s there for 1/2 price!

I bought my placecards before I called my hall! My hall doesn't allow it!!!
I really wanted it too!
My mom didn't love it though for all the reasons people mentioned above. I bought the fake tea light thingies and the ones I bought looked cheap so I didn't buy them and I am selling them to someone on here who needs them!!!!

I am almost positive HWC allows them. I think there is a bride on here that used them and got married at the Hamlet.
