Morning! Hope everyone is able to stay cool in this oppressive heat...wish I could be at the beach right now

My question for today is about holidays! What do you & FH do for the holidays? Are there any holidays you have to split between families? What is your favorite holiday to spend with FH & why?

FH & I don’t have one particular holiday that we both love celebrating together-both of our birthdays are usually pretty fun—but we do have to compromise on where to spend different holidays-usually I’ll go to Boston for Thanksgiving- that way we can spend Christmas in NY- I feel bad about not having him spend Christmas with his family so I try to make it up to him by going up there for New Years, Memorial Day, & Labor Day (the longer weekends)

Typically we split the holidays with our families. Luckily FH and I live pretty close together and so do our aunts! So when we split the day we will typically trade off each holiday which we will do dinner with (the majority of the day) and which family we will do desert with. So far, things have worked out pretty nicely. I hope that continues!

And my favorite holiday with him? Christmas!

I don't know that we have a favorite holiday as a couple, although x-mas 2010 was nice since it was our first x-mas in our house.

Since I am catholic and FH is jewish we dont share religious holidays so we spend the jewish holidays with his fam and the catholic holidays with mine.

Our families are spread all over, so it makes holidays tough for us, but I think we started a system that works! Thanksgiving is spent with his sister and her in-laws since it was a tradition for FH before he and I met. The next day we spend time with my parents and sister. We spend Christmas in Maine with my family and have smaller Christmases with his sisters and their husbands.
I loved spending all holidays with him, I can't pick a favorite!

This is a tough one for me....

WIth my whole family living in Minnesota we don't see them too much. So when we first started talking marriage and stuff like that, I told FH straight out. I am not willing to give up my Christmas in Minnesota. So he asked could we do every other Christmas in Minnesota, and I was like No, your family will have us for every other holiday, especially when we have kids I want my family to be able to share that special time with them........and he was ok with that, except this year we will be staying in New York, since we will be going home in August for my brothers wedding then again in April for ours....it gets to be a lot.

and on the side note....he is the one most upset about not going to my family for christmas this year.

we typically split all of the holidays so christmas eve with his family and christmas with mine. thanksgiving we will go up to my parents a week before and eat with them.

favorite holiday to spend with him are our birthdays just because it's the two of us.

Great question!!!

Since FH and I celebrate different holidays, the only ones we have to split are Thanksgiving and Mother's Day. For Thanksgiving we switch off each year - this year we went to his family so next year we are going to my family.

I think our favorite holiday together is Christmas. I grew up Jewish so I never celebrated it, but FH loves it and I enjoy sharing it with him <3

FH is usually not off on holidays but now that he is working midnights he can come to at least part of holidays. The only holiday really that both families celebrate is Thanksgiving since I am jewish and he is catholic.

Holidays are hard. FH parents both died so alot of times the brothers all go to the respective inlaws. I guess the next year I will see what happens with Thanksgiving.

Usually we spend the holidays with just the two of us. Once in awhile we visit my mom on the same day otherwise she will complain and we will have a fight. Really I would love to celebrate holidays with friends and I am specifically talking about Christmas and Thanksgiving. I think my favorite holiday has always been Christmas and FH just makes it so much more special.

Good Question......Holidays can be tough when you have 2 families to share! My fave holiday is Thanksgiving, but together I think we enjoy X-mas most.
I've been going to my uncles house for X-mas day since I was born and it was something I couldn't imagine not doing. Luckily FH was great about coming to my family X-mas day and we spend X-mas eve with his.
Before we were engaged we separated and went to our respective families house for Thanksgiving. But since we got engaged we've had it at our apt. with his family.

This is actually an easy fix for us...
FH is jewish and im catholic so the holidays arent the same (although I believe this year Christmas falls during hannukah and his fam is totally trying to have their hannukah on christmas and im like R u f'ing kidding me...u have 8 days to pick from and u pick mine)

Other than that, Thanksgiving was the big conflict but now that we live together, we host it for both families (like 25 ppl in my small house- but we make it work) My mom died so I usually let him do his own thing with his mom on m others day and fathers day my dad is always MIA with his son so I kinda lay low for that too.

Since we live about 2 hours from LI, we alternate the holidays between both our families so that no one feels left out. My favorite holiday this past year was definitely Christmas, because it's the first time he got to meet my parents/family! Which was very nice :) Not sure which will be my favorite in the future!

We've always had great Christmases so I would have to say those are our favorites. We do Jewish holidays with his mom, Thanksgiving has been with my family the past two years but before that we just went to our respective families. Christmas we do the first half of the day with his dad and sisters and the second half with my family. All the other holidays we do with my family. My family is much more into getting together for the holidays than his family is.

our top #1 holiday is halloween, we start planning 6 months in advance (we've already got our costumes planned out for this coming halloween) and go totally over board lol i love it!

2nd is st. pats - onceagain we go totally over board lol i like that one cause it was our 1st holiday we spent together.

3rd- 'Valen-fo-versary' we met on valentines day, it our anniversay so i renamed it lol (personally i hate valentines day lol and figured it made up any way that i can make up my own holiday too lol)

the rest of the holidays involves LOTS of driving to the families but we have Christmas Eve with mine and his parents at our apartment :)

FH's family never really got together for the holidays His parents were homebodies and didn't like going out.

His brother and SIL always, therefore, celebrate with her family, and Tommy was always invited there. So her family has now become our family! At least for the holidays!

So we end up splitting on Christmas and Easter. It's a little exhausting but worth it to see everyone, especially now that FH has a nephew/Godson.

FH's family is from Batavia, NY (just outside of Buffalo). So the one holiday that we make sure to be there for is Christmas. It's the time of year that his brother's come home and all of their friends as well. His family will also do an early Thanksgiving once in awhile so we go whenever they do.

We do the rest of the holidays down here. Sometimes FH's parents & brothers make it other times they can't. And this year's Thanksgiving will be at my apartment and his family and mine will be here (at least 10 people and 3 dogs )

ETA: Christmas is our favorite. We get to see alot of friends/family and it's a time to just realx and enjoy each others company.

FH and I always spend the holidays together. For Thanksgiving, we usually eat with his family first and then go to mine. For Christmas, Christmas Eve we spend with his family. Christmas Day we have breakfast with his family & then drive to have dinner with mine. NYE we usually just do our own thing & then go to his grandparents on NYD. For Mother's Day, we usually take his mother out to breakfast and then go to dinner with mine & father's day we usually go for breakfast & then mine either go out for dinner or bbq.

My favorite holiday to spend with FH is Christmas -we always go see the tree and drive around looking at Christmas decorations, plus who doesn't like getting presents?

We split all the holidays. Are families live very close to each other. His aunt actually lives the next street over from me! lol

Our favorite holiday to celebrate together would be Christmas. I love giving presents and I live to see FHs face as he opens all his gifts!

Holidays are tough for us. FH family is split between Maryland and New Jersey and my family isl back home in NY. We try to alternate Thanksgiving. Although, last Thanksgiving we spent Thanksgiving day with FH family and then had a 2nd Thanksgiving with my family on the Saturday after. Christmas we always spend in NY, which I know is selfish of me, but FH's family doesn't always get together for Christmas, they are weird when comes to family get togethers. My favorite holiday to spend with FH is Christmas. We always manage to have our own special Christmas celebration together in our condo just the two of us before the family celebrations.

FH and his family are from Seattle, so the holidays have been/will continue to be a bit tricky. The first year we were together, he was with my family for Thanksgiving, and went back to Seattle for Christmas. The second year we were together, he went home for both. That year there was a bad snow storm that kept him from leaving for Seattle until Christmas Eve morning, and we actually got into a big fight. He said, however, that was when he realized he wanted to marry me. Last year, his family was in London for Thanksgiving, so he was here, and he was here for Christmas too. This year, I have NO idea what we're going to do.

My favorite holiday with FH is Valentine's Day...because it's my birthday! This year, he took me to see Sixteen Candles in the movie theater, got me some dvds I really wanted, and took me out to dinner.
