i have a dilema. i always wanted my dad to walk me down the aisle..which he is, but that was before i knew that sometimes both parents do it. now i want to stay traditional and just have my dad...but then i feel bad because i'm my parents last daughter and my mom didnt walk my sister down the aisle with my dad. now i feel like my mom really doesn't care about this wedding so that makes me not want to do it, but then i say in my mind..'will she hate me if i dont have her walk me down with my dad?' what are your opinions on this? i dont know what to do...and i can't talk to my mom because everything out of her mouth is an insult or she just starts arguing with me about anything.
thanks.

I'm with you I want to stay traditional and just have my Dad walk me down the aisle. I don't think my Mom will have any issues with it only because it is tradition.

My mom told me she would never take that honor away from my dad. But it's totally up to you and your family.

Re: walking down the aisle..
well to be fair--the main culture that usually has both mother & father walk them down the aisle (as far as i know ) is a Jewish tradition. (according to my wedding planning book that shows pictures of a typical processional)
is your mom really that PO'd about this? you really can't talk to her at all?
another way to honor your (and FH's mom) is a rose ceremony. during your marriage ceremony, the minister states that you thanks your fathers and honor your mothers by giving them each a rose, acknowledging them in all they've done for you since you were born. (there's obviously a much more eloquent way to word this--but i'm just giving an example) we're doing it as a surprise for our moms.

personally you need to do what is right for YOU...whatever you decide she will deal with....if she's being a PITA from teh start maybe talk to your dad and see if he can get an answer as to what she would prefer...otherwise do what you want
i know my mother and I have discussed this and she says it's daddy's day to show off his daughter, so like another bride said she will not take that away from him....and she figures she'll be crying to hard to see where to walk anyways (it'll be a happy cry...she's just a crier...who else cries at bridal showcase during the lil pretend dj things)

Re: walking down the aisle..
i asked my mom if she would want to walk me down and she said absolutely not - it is tradition for the dad to do it and she would never even dream of taking away from my dad's moment. . .
so you have to figure out what works for you!

i never knew that was a jewish tradition. interesting.
see my mom is a b!tch. she doesnt like anything that i do..,.i feel like she doesnt want this wedding to happen because we got engaged so quickly. nothing i do is good enough, shes disapointed in me because i haven't found a 'real' job yet, meanwhile i just graduated in may and graphic design is hard to get into. and she doesnt understand that. i'm not like her, thats probably why. i get along great with my dad, not her...we've been feuding forever and i dont think it'll ever stop.
i never thought of a rose ceremony. thanks for the suggestion!

Re: walking down the aisle..
I had the same concern as you and when I talked to my mom she said it has always been something she wants me and my dad to experience together and she wouldnt want to take away from that. Maybe she would feel the same way?

awww i wish my mom was like yours...my mom is definitely not a crier unless shes complaining about something which is usually me not being the perfect daughter. i know she won't be crying at my wedding, she didnt even care about how i looked in my wedding dress when we went looking and buying.

Do you think your mom is expecting you to ask her? It doesn't sound to me like you really want her to walk you down the aisle with your dad. Was she upset when your sister didn't have her walk her down the aisle, too?
I agree with those who say do what works for YOU!

I'm with you...stay traditional, but maybe you should talk to your mom to make sure she won't be mad. I'm sure she wouldn't be.

i dont know if shes expecting me to. and i kinda want her too, only because i'm her last child, but i want to stay traditional. i dont think she was upset with my sister, but the two of them get along better than we do. she was actually all excited over my sisters wedding, with mine, she doesnt seem to care. everytime i ask her about something, she just gives an attitude.
i'll probably just stay traditional and maybe if FH agrees, do a rose ceremony.

Re: walking down the aisle..
I had my dad walk me down the aisle and then my mom walked out of her pew when we got up there and they both 'gave me away' to my husband. I thought it was good because I got to walk down the aisle with my dad alone, but my mom was able to be involved, too.

That's what I'm doing... I WAS gonna do both, but I want my dad to have the honor, even though my mom is my rock (they both are). There's a separation of pews in my church where my mom can stand off to the side and walk the last 8 or so feet up with me and my dad up to my fiance and they can both give me away. So the majority of the walk will be me and my dad... then the homestretch will be all three of us. It will be the three of us in the limo going, though.
