Is anyone doing this? Or has anyone seen a bride do this?
I know sometiems brides who have lost a father or do not have a relationship with a father have someone else walk them down the aisle, but what about walking solo?
My friend told me it would look wierd.
Comments?
Thanks.

Yes, I am considering this for myself.
Janwinterbridejoy, its funny you mentioned how your friend did it and had her dh meet her half way. That is exactly what I was thinking of - and that is exactly what my friend said would look weird! To me, that is what would feel the most natural - it is about him and me. And I do not have that father-daughter relationship that many girls do.
Hmmmm. Anyone else?

I was actually thinking about getting a nice pair of Nike's and just sprinting down the aisle. That way, it would be so outrageous that no one would even notice that my Dad got mad and decided not to come to the wedding.
Seriously, I am probably going to have my older brother walk me down the aisle. If not him, then my uncle who's my godfather.

Re: Walking down the aisle alone?
Hi Kate, I am walking down the aisle alone. I don't speak to my father any more and even if I did I wouldn't have him do it. My sister had my mother walk her down the aisle. Personally, I don't think I should choose someone else, whether it be my mother or grandfater, to 'give me away'. The old time meaning of giving away is that the daughter is property of her father and at the wedding when he gives her away he is transferring ownership to her husband I know it does not have the same emaning anymore but I still don't feel comfortable with it. Instead I am going to walk down the aisle alone and meet my FH 3/4 way down... rather than 1/2 because where I am getting married there are steps at that point. I am happier doing it this way although my old fashioned family disagrees.

I had a friend who did this and it didn't look weird. She had a strained relationship with her her father, and her parents did not get along at all. I think the key is to look and be comfortable with it yourself.

I really debated it for a while. I think it looks fine. I wish I did it, at times!

Re: Walking down the aisle alone?
I'm walking down the aisle alone - FH husband will meet me about 3/4 of the way. I don't talk to my dad and while I thought about having someone else walk me down the aisle - this made the most sense to me.
FH will be waiting up front but as I make my entrance he'll walk around the side and stand waiting for me where there is an aisle between the pews. Then he'll lift my veil and we'll walk the rest of the way together.
I don't think it's weird - nothing that you feel comfortable with is weird. If this is what you want then do it - don't worry about what other people think. If you are confident about doing it then the rest won't matter.

Re: Walking down the aisle alone?
Isn't that a tradition in Jewish weddings? My brother and SIL (who had a jewish ceremony) her father passed away and her mother and bbrother walked her about 3/4 way down then my brother went and 'got' her...
ETA: I think its nice for him to meet, then you will walk together to give your vows

Thank you so much for all of the feedback. It is nice to hear other people in similar situations.
Julz33, I could not have said it better myself - I completely do not like the whole 'giving away' thing.
I give myself to my FH!!!!!

Re: Walking down the aisle alone?
It is jewish custom for both parents to walk you down the aisle and then for FH to meet you a part of the way and escort you up.
I lost my dad almost 8 years ago so my mom is walking me down the aisle. Then FH will pick me up.

I am walking down the aisle by myself - dont let others tell you what is wierd - you should do what you are most comfortable with.

I am walking down the aisle alone. My FFIlL wants to walk me down because he doesnt like that idea but he hasnt even acknowledged our engagement why would I even consider that? Anyway, I am having my FI meet me 1/2 or 3/4 the way down.

I think if you want to walk down the aisle alone, go for it! More power to you!

Re: Walking down the aisle alone?
I did it...bad family situation...parents divorced, not on speaking terms..yada, yada, yada.
My DH met me half way and then we walked the rest of the way together.
Here's some pics.
It did feel a bit weird and at times I wish I had someone walk me down but it just wasn't possible given my situation. Besides, it doesn't matter HOW you get there, as long as you get there!

I dont think it will look weird - it will be your grand entrance - you would look independent and strong. I think its all a matter of personal prefernce.

Re: Walking down the aisle alone?
I think that people should remember to do what they want to do. We always (including myself) worry about what over people with think about our flowers, hair, dj, vows, that they are no longer what we wanted but a mixture of what everyone else wanted. Do what makes you comfortable. I think it would look beautiful walking alone down the isle. I personally think it is akward doing it with someone (though I will because I want to).
