Want to hear opinions (food, etc.) before I book...The Metropolitan, Glen Cove
Just saw The Metropolitan. With an indoor ceremony room, an elegant atmosphere, I really want to book it. However, I have no idea how the food is and just missed a tasting.
I would be thrilled if anyone who has ever eaten there or been there would share their experience...even word of mouth would be helpful.
Thanks!

I have never been there before, however I used to work in Glen Cove (also in the catering business). Most of the stuff I heard about the Met was so so. I heard one person complain that the food was really bland and cold when they went to an affair there (not sure if it was a wedding). But that was a couple of years ago so maybe theyve gotten better. if you want good food I would definitely schedule a tasting (did you ask if they could arrange something special for you?). food was one of our top priorities and we made sure we had a meal prior to booking louis xvi. sorry, i don’t know anything about the metropolitan…

I don't know anything about the food, but the place looks beautiful. Very different.

I went to a wedding last fall so I could hear a potential band play. I didn't eat at all so i can't comment on the food. I thought the place looked nice. It's small but obviously perfect if you have a small wedding. The one thing you have to be careful of is the volume of the band/DJ. It is right behind the poor bartender who must be deaf by the end of the night. Anyway, I told the manager of the band that I thought they were WAY too loud and she agreed but said the acoustics were bad in the room because fo the mirrors. Now she could have been lying to me but it sounds right. Without lots of draperies and carpet - music does get very loud. So I'm not saying don't book it - but rather keep this in mind and ask what they can do to help and discuss this with whomever is doing the music for your wedding! Good luck

I think the food is great... I have been there a few times for weddings and was thinking of having my wedding there but it was too $$ for us... I love the food - the cocktail hour had some good items & the salmon is soo yummy. I am sure by this evening you'll have responses from brides who are getting married there...
I did go to a wedding there where they had an awesome swing band comprised of men all over the age of 70 - the ywere great and played over the bar - they sounded great... Good Luck!

I actually was there in March. It's a very pretty place. The upstairs part gives it nice ambience, but in all honesty, if you're planning on more than what the bottom can hold (180 or 190 I think) you shouldn't have it there. The upstairs doesn't have a bathroom and doesn't lead directly to the dance floor. You kind of feel out of the wedding up there.
That being said, the food was excellent. Service was so so (I had to get all my own drinks). The cocktail hour didn't have a big variety of food, though what they had was good.

A client of mine recommended it when I was still searching for a hall but it was a little out of my budget.

my mom is a professional musican and has played at the Metropolitan- she's complained about the acoustics there and the fact that the band is separated from the guests...
I found the band-guest interaction to be VERY important.

The staircase enterance is so great!! Anyway, I am from Glen Cove and my family has been to the Met for many occassions and when I was looking at it they had nothing but great things to say about the food (and they are very picky). I think its a great choice!!

Never been there or tasted the food. My sister had a similar situation. She booked the place with a stipulation that if she didn't like the food after the tasting she got all her money back, no questions asked.

My sister got married there in June of 02. I really loved it there. I really thought that they took great care of us. The food ws very good. I know my sister walked away very pleased with her wedding.

So this all sounds pretty good. The worst I've heard so far is that the acoustics might be weak and the cocktail hour food might be light.
I did notice from the menu that the international cheese/bread board that is standard everywhere else is about $7 extra and the carving stations looked a little bare.
I'd be really interested to hear the review from the person who is going to a wedding there tonight!

Not sure if I'm too late responding, but I was there for a cocktail reception last year. I personally thought it was great. I enjoy 'different' types of food, but my mom and a couple of the other older people didn't really like it. My opinion is go for it...i thought the food was good.
