I am supposed to go to Greece for my honeymoon in May and bottom line is, I am very nervous with the impending war with Iraq.
I haven't booked yet so it is not too late to change my mind. I want to go there more than anything but I don't want to be newvous and gittery on my honeymoon or the 9 hour flight to Athens.
It is getting late and we have to decide in the next week. Any other brides going abroad having similar concerns?

Wacky you should double check if your insurance covers acts of war. A lot of them don't. Hell they even have criteria to meet regarding deaths in the family!!!

Thanks Jenhos, I was just thinking that. We were supposed to go away on Sept 11 when the *******s disrupted our lives and we were able to get a voucher to take later on. I was quite surprised. ' 'But I will double check again

We are going to Italy in MArch, air tickets are already bought and some of the hotels are booked and deposit put down. Should we be concerned?

It depends what is going on during the time and also the type of ticket you hold. Some are non refund non transfurable... but they could change the rules due to the crises. Check with your agent but also check with the airline directly. As a travel agent just to let you know the insurance idea is a good one. Ask VERY IMPORTANT... they the airlline are not always responable for ACTS OF WAR. So I would really look into it. Good luck

We're going to Thailand. We got travel insurance and it covers 'war'. I figureged paying $300 is better than loosing all our money.

WE WERE GOING TO GO TO GREECE TOO BUT UNFORTUNATLY CHANGED OUR MINDS. OUR TRIP INSURANCE THAT WE PURCHASED WITH OUR HONEYMOON NOW DOES NOT INCLUDE TERROISM OR WAR.

We are going to Aruba and I was starting to think about all this, but if I think about it too much I will get all worked up and worried, so I am just going to go to Aruba like Jennbaby and have a GREAT time on my Honeymoon!

Yes, definitely read the fine print with your travel insurance.
When we booked our HM a few months after 9/11, we asked for the insurance, and our TA explained that it only covers if an act or war or terrorism occurs within 30 days of our trip - anything else and we were on our own if we were to cancel.

Re: War with Iraq and Honeymoons
Looks like that was a good question. My travel insurance does not include war either. That's why I thought better safe than sorry.
As for those of you going forward with ARuba and what not, although all travel is dangerous these days, a 3 hour flight to the US friendly Carribean is different than a 8-10 international flight to Europe in my opinion. That's why I wanted feedback from other European honeymooners.

Re: War with Iraq and Honeymoons
I think they were giving their feedback because ANY flight is worrisome for anyone these days. FH and I are worried about our simple flight to Vegas and San Francisco. And you subject header isn't indicative of just European honeymooners...
I think that you shouldn't change a thing, unless there is a warning about traveling abroad from our governement.
Edited to add: My travel insurance through liberty covers acts of terrorism.

As Greece is pretty close to Turkey- I would maybe skip it. I wold stick with the Carribean, Western Europe and the USA. Just got back from Mexico yesterday- the ssecurity was VERY tight due to the inflated terror alert- but it made me feel way safe.

Re: War with Iraq and Honeymoons
I'm getting married in November and we decided to stay within the US. With the present climate I would rather be safe then sorry. Americans do not seem be loved at the moment.
I read an article this morning where an American student studying in France was told if she got into any trouble to say she was Canadian and not American. Kind of sad...
But I think that we will have great time in California...America is a beatiful country with so much to see!

I think I am starting to agree with you Sassy.
The post was not just for European honeymooners as I stated and as I also stated, flying is dangerous for anyone anywhere, but there is a big difference between the Carribean and a country significantly close to the potential war as Sassy noted. That's all.

Regina - don't get me started on those freakin Frog pansies (the French), LOL! All MO.
I would say that given the world climate today, it is better to be safe than sorry and stay within the US, the Caribbean or Mexico. Just my two cents.
