Warning don't leave your invites out!!! (GRR Vent)

Ok, so my invites came in last Friday night. I knew Jim’s mother wanted some to hand deliver. So asked her on Saturday and found out she needed 20. Fine. I THOUGHT she needed 30 but 20 is ok. So I sit and set them up.

Invite, RSVP, directions, return envelope and put them in the outer envelope. We give her the 20.

Then last night…. Jim got home before me. When he picked me up at the train station he says “Someone’s been through the invites.” Im thinking this is out of Goldie Hocks and the three bears. We don’t know WHO went into the box only that someone did cause everything was rifled through.

So last night I sit and set up the remaining invites. I missing directions cards which I asked the hall for more but when I’m done I find I’m missing two RSVP return envelopes. Jim says he thinks his mother took three invites because she wanted to mail them out to the UK. I think she took two and didn’t grab the RSVP card that went WITH the envelope, she probably assumed the RSVP card was inside it.

So how rude is that?? Can you imagine getting an invite and all it has is a little red envelope (which in Chinese culture is given with money) which is empty? It can be interpreted maybe 4 ways.

1. – Duh where’s the RSVP (which I hope they understand)
2. – How rude to send an empty red envelope
3. – How rude to send an envelope as if their asking for money
4. – odd mistake..

So I made Jim call his mother on her cell last night (which she doesn’t know how to make the ringer RING when she gets a call and she hardly EVER actually has it on or outside her purse and even then doesn’t really use it unless she’s calling someone) and left her a voicemail saying “You left two RSVP cards behind, don’t mail them out like that, we left them on your bed, come back and get them”.

I am so ANNOYED

Ok,

A) How RUDE to come into our bedroom uninvited and go through our stuff (the invites were in a box)
B) How RUDE to just take stuff as if you’re got some right! You haven’t even paid for your daughters DRESS yet for this wedding or contributed!

HANDS OFF MY STUFF!

I don't care if it's a shoebox with a toilet in one corner and a bed in the other.. this is killing me.. *sigh* Just taking it one day at time.

Though I must admit I feel like a prisioner. It's been 1 year and 2 months and 11 days since I moved in. Move out date is tentatively scheduled for Feburary 2005!!!

Im paying for the wedding. But I don't want to go into debt. So we are waiting until our tax return. Hence Feb '05.

It gives us a chance to pay off bills that would later annoy us in our own place. Im a worry wort about that kind stuff. Then again, I've gone without food and barely enough money for gas before when I lived in Texas and I'm just not up to doing that again.

I think you are lucky to have the opportunity/choice to stay with family so you dont have any debt after the wedding. We are going to use most of the money we receive as gifts to pay for things we charged. Its just so sad what we go through for 5 hours of our life!

Sorry, to hear she went through your room.
I would have been pissed too! Why couldnt she just wait until you got home. First its not hers and she obviously doesn't know what the right protocol is for stuffing an invitation. I hope for your sake, she checked the red envelope to make sure all info was in there before she sends it out. The other family members will definitely be talking about an empty envelope.

I hope they can see it was a mistake rather than feel insulted. That is if the invite got sent.

I'm not a least bit ashamed or embarrassed of my situation.


Mostly it's ok. This however was annoying!

She hasn't replied to our voicemailn yet. *shrug* at this point I'm just not worrying about it. And I'm keeping a sharper eye on those invites I *DO* have!

That would drive me crazy! I counted my invites 3 times & have them separated by what goes to the calligrapher & what stays with us till she's done. If any body touches anything. I'd flip.

Its just the 2 of us though.

However, when my apartment was broken into 2 weeks ago, the invites & my headpeice were the first things I checked!
