Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

Long story short is be careful if you get medication from them.
If you take anitbiotics or something that you take immediately don't worry - but for those who take medication on certain occasions (allergy meds or something that might take you a couple of months to use up) be very careful.
I take monthly B12 shots - well they sold my mother a YEAR supply as they do every year in September- well when she was ready to give me my shot this month she noticed that the rest of my year supply expires THIS MONTH. So she took it back to them and their response was - NOT OUR PROBLEM - we were nice to give you the year sample (my presciption is requested for a year amount - b/c of the small dose). She said but this is supposed to last the year - they told her well you will have to get a new presciption if you wan more for the year. She PAID for a YEARs worth of medication - they WILL NOT take the unopened bottles back and exchange them they tell her that you have to get a new script and buy new medication.

I came home and looked at my allergy medication and noticed that they some of my medication that come in boxes expire 3-9 months before the date of discard on their stickers.

I just got off the phone with them and they tell me - well the discard date has NOTHING to do with the expiration date of the medication - and my allergy pills - might actually expire anywhere from 1 month -1 year after I pick up my prescription. I told them it can take me 4 months to finish my medicine and their response well your medication may have already expired then.

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

Have you tried to call the corporate office?

I had a problem with them too, they were still charging me for 3 months under my old medical plan, even though i gave the guy my new card he just never did anything with it.. And now its all going to be very confusing to fix, i needed them to give me a copy of ALL reciepts charged from January. I called the C.O and they are sending it to me

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

YES we WILL be filing a formal complaint with them. The head guy at the one I go to is a creep and yells at customers and insults them all the time. My father had an issue with them giving him the wrong presciption (someone elses) and I went in later that day - the guy had the nerve to ask me if the that was my father then proceeded to scream at me about my dad in front of about 20 people. Can you believe that?

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

ugh. Can I join the anti-CVS club too? I was really sick last month and went in to fill a perscription and they were like 'oh we don't have this, maybe tomorrow'. I said what the hell am I supposed to take to feel better TONIGHT?! Its happened to me so many times there that they don't have simple medications, so frustrated. I started going back to LI (I am in Queens) to my old pharmacy!!

I dont get my prescripts there but that is BS!!! I dont understand how they can get away with giving you meds that expire during the time that they are prescribed and not give you current ones. FIGHT TILL THE END ON THIS ONE!!!!

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

They gave me the wrong BC pills last month. I only noticed when I opened up the pack and the pill colors didn't look familiar. Although probably not a big deal - what if it were a serious medication error!

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

Definately speak to the people in charge and follow up with a nasty letter to the big boss overseeing all the CVS branches. I also had a problem with a CVS store about 2 years ago.

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

They are a very strange place. They really dont seem to care is the pharmacy does well or not. We comparison shopped my Husbands RX with them. They were significantly higher than Rite Aid on some big $$ Rx. CVS is about 2 blocks away from us and Rite Aid is 3 miles away. When we showed them the price comparison and explained that we would like to use them because of their location their respone was well those are our prices. DH is on a ton of meds. due to a kidney transplant. Last year his RX bill totaled just over 17,000.00 (Thank God for Good Insurance). Their loss.

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

It's a shame that local phamacies are becoming fewer and far between. The only one I knew of by me was taken over by a Duane Reade a couple of years ago.

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

this is just another example of why people should support their local (Mom & Pop) pharmacies!! They seem to take more pride in their work than the ones that work in the big chains!!

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

I went to my local mom and pop drug store for years! but I still had to go to CVS on a rare occasion b/c the small store would tell me it would take a week to get certain meds.
I had to switch to CVS b/c the only other small drug store in town does not accept ANY insurance- ugh - so I was forced there.
Anyone know of any other good drug stores to change my Rx's to in Garden city?

Re: Warning to all who use CVS Pharmacy! VENT

For those that were given expired medications also need to contact your employers benefits dept and your healthcare provider of this. Your insurance is paying CVS for medications that you are unable to use. Also, the insurance company may not pay for another dose of a medication if the previous dosage should still be being used. As the Benefits manager for my company, I would def want to know about something like this.

I try to stay away from those big pharmacies, especially Genovese.
I like to go to my local guy, where he KNOWS ME PERSONALLY
