Was your proposal a surprise?

Were you expecting a proposal or did it come out of the blue?


The first time he asked me it was- we were only dating 8 months!! Of course, it wasn't a 'real proposal'. I picked out my ring, he asked my parents, and 4 months later he officially asked me. I knew it was coming..just not sure when.

FH and I had been together almost 5 years. We had talked about getting married many times. In November, at my grandmothers wake he told my dad that he was going to ask me to marry him. My dad told him that he didnt need to tell him his intentions that we were both adults. He asked in December. I suspected it was coming.

I had picked out the ring, but I wasn't sure when it was going to happen. I knew it was going to happen sometime over the summer though.

we were dating 7 years, we had talked about getting married for a while. we went to fortunoff to look for baby jewlery for my niece but looked at engagement rings instead, i found my ring he asked my dads permission.then about 3 weeks later as i was trying to take a nap he asked and totally surprised me!!!

I knew it was going to happen, i just didn't know when. I knew he had the ring in the middle of september and for my birthday oct. 20th he kept asking me what i wanted and i kept telling him that he can just give me the ring-he told me to wait 3 weeks. he ended up asking 10 days later Oct. 30th-which was a total surpise i had no idea

i knew it was coming...he told me when he went ring shoppinga nd even told me the experience he had....so i kinda knew it was coming soon

I had been begging to get engaged since November. so it really wasn't a surprise. I had picked out rings I like and he got it in May. I know because I am a snoop and I found it. It took him until September to give it to me. He talked to my parents on a Friday and gave it to me on a Monday. I was kind of expecting it that day but didnt think he would actually do it and than he did!!! I am more surprised he finally gave me a ring!!!!

I though he would never ask. He always said he wanted to buy me my dream ring and nothing less but he couldn't afford it for a long time. I was just waiting but little did I know he had been putting money aside for over a year!
The day he asked I had no idea he would.
It was nice to be surprized but I didn't pick out my ring. He had a picture of my dream and bought me a similar one since my dream ring was Taquori and too expensive. I love it just the same.

I knew it was coming but it was also quite a surprise since he decided to trick me. We had been talking about getting engaged for awhile and went ring shopping together a few times. So this past weekend he told me we were going to NYC for a work party, and well...it wasn't lol. He told me he hadn't been truthful and he got down on his knee. He treated me to a very nice night out and the ring was definetely a surprise too!

mine was a totally surprise.. i had no idea it was coming. but now that i think about it, the hints were all there.

mine was. i had been hinting i wanted to get engaged and he would always say we had to wait till i had a teaching position, not a teachers assistant. little did i know that he had already bought the ring in august.
on the day, i was mad at him because he was late getting to my house to go to an islanders game. i had set up a group game and a lot of my family and friends were going to be there. he ended up proposing in the parking lot before the game. it was perfect. i cried so hard. and then my family and friends were there to celebrate at the game with us. he couldnt have planned it any better.

I knew it was comming. I picked out the diamond and suggested settings lol. i knew he was paying it off and I just didnt know when or where. Then my brother spilled the beans we had an overnight stay planned in the city to go do some things. It was my lil brothers 21st bday weekend and i was going to change my city plans then my brother said your going to the city do whatever Toms says and have fun. And I just knew. So the whole time i was so nervous wondering what exact moment it was going to happen. It was a long day of antisipation but when he took me to the top of Rock Center I knew it was comming. :) it was amazing

We've been dating for 4 yrs. I kinda thought it would happen sometime this year, but was completly surprised where and when he did it. We were on vacation in the DR when he proposed. Everyone kept asking me before we left if I thought I would get a ring...I said no way is he bringing a ring on a plane. Well he did and I was shocked. It was very romantic and perfect!!!

I had no idea. He swore he'd never get married again. I had asked but he was always forceful with his no. Think he surprised himself when he asked. It was out of the blue while watching a show on Disney weddings.

i had an idea it was coming.. we had talked about it a lot.. the day of i was a bit suspicious, but it still caught me off guard!

i had absolutely no idea. Fh isn't the most romantic so I figured at one of his shows (he's the singer or screamer if you want to call it in a hardcore band) he'd propose if he ever would. instead he did it when we were at Disney in front of Cinderella's castle with the fireworks.

apparently i came really close to finding the ring too. i usually put our laundry away except for his socks and i happened to put his socks away and that's where he hid the ring.

i figured 1 day we'd be getting married but this was totally a shock

I knew it was coming for about a month. He kept mentioning this 'surprise' he had for me. He can't hold things in when he gets excited lol

My proposal was totally a surprise after 4 years of being together we have talked about getting married but i never expected for him to propose on the date or the year hehe this is how it went:

I was taking a weekend workshop with one of the most amazing Tribal Fusion Bellydance dancers Ms Zoe Jakes (im a dancer) and on the last day of the workshop June 29, 2008, FH took me to the Bronx Zoo a very special place for FH and I. We walked for a while, I was sooo tired but we kind of rested at the 'Dancing Crane Cafe'. He kept telling me how much he loves me and how great of a person I am. Then he took me to the 'Butterfly Garden' and it was very quiet in there we started taking pictures of the butterflies (that day had rained so much that there weren't many butterflies, but the ones we saw were very pretty). I had my back towards the entrance because I was busy taking the pictures when he suddenly hugs me and tells me he loves me AGAIN!! awww and I feel a poke ...as I turned around I started seeing my family and his family and I was like '***' I started shaking and crying (very dramatic) as he gets down on on knee and asks: Would you Marry me? He had the ring half way on my finger and I said: 'I didn't say yes yet' he asked again and I said YES!!!! It was such a beautiful day besides the rain our families were there and that's all that mattered to us :)

I knew we went shopping for rings, and he he was holding the ring at the jewelers until he was ready. The actual proposal was a COMPLETE surprise because he woke me up out of bed in my PJs and made me come outside so he could give me roses and a stuffed monkey (I have a thing, he gets me a stuffed monkey for every holiday) and of course the ring!

My mom knew, I don't know how she kept it from me.

Mine was a total surprise...he told me 3 weeks b4 that it wasnt happening for a year because he needed to save. We got into a huge disagreement that he didnt need to spend insane amounts of money on the ring that it was what it ment that counts. So one night Im out at dinner with my friends completely complaining about how it was never going to happen and how Im getting impatient after 5 years of dating. While Im out with my friends he went over to my house to talk to my parents and inform them. So 2 weeks later I met him at a feast that his church has and he proposed with a band playing infront of the church that we are going to get married in. He picked out the ring completely on his own and I must say he did a GREAT job. The best part is we have tons of pictures of the actual proposal and my reaction since sooooo many people were there. After it happened I couldnt stop shaking for over an hour, I went totally weak in the knees lol
