My mom called me to say she thinks it's a better idea if my shower is not a surprise and claims that she's been to many showers that were not a surprise -- meaning, the bride was told when it would be and even showed up before the other guests to greet everyone. She doesn't plan to tell me any incidentals of the planning, but wants to tell me when it will happen. I think she also figures it'll save me from figuring it out on my own and from showing up not dressed up!
So, was your shower supposed to be a surprise, or were you supposed to know? (regardless of whether or not you figured it out!)

well my shower was supposed to be a surprise... FH slipped and told me the location... and then my mom was on the phone(speaker phone) with my aunt and somehow my shower came into conversation and before anyone could say that i was in the room.. the date was mentioned... so its no longer a surprise but i would have figured it out anyways since my sis will be flying in from FL for it!!

But I went to one last year that was NOT a surprise. The bride basically made all the plans herself. So we kinda stood there when she walked in like... Didnt know what to say BUT it was a great shower anyway... Ive heard of ALOT of showers not being a surprise anymore. It's purely personal preference

Mine was not a surprise but I wasn't involved in any of the planning.
They did surprise me by serenading me with 'Going to the Chapel' when I walked in. My mom even had lyric sheets printed up. It was really cute. Everyone participated.
I took the opportunity to do my hair and makeup trial for that day to practice getting ready on a schedule.

Mine is supposed to be a surprise, but people once in a while bring it up and I have to remind them that I don't know anything about it.. Ugh!
Like I was at my parent's and picked up their phone and my mom's friend said... 'Oh, you excited for your shower?' Then my FSIL keeps telling me she bought a new dress for my shower. I told her I don't want to know and she said she just wants me to know she got a new dress.

Mine was supposed to be a shower, but DH slipped, w/o realizing it. I kept quiet about it, told a few people, no one who was involved in the planning b/c I knew it would've upset them.
I wanted it to be a surprise b/c I love surprises.
My baby shower (which is in less than 4 weeks) is not a surprise. I picked the date and place, let me mom, aunt and cousins do all the rest. I wills till show up at the 'planned' surprise time, as most think it's a surprise.

Mine was a surprise!! That's how I wanted it and I would've been upset if anyone had told me. I kinda had a feeling of when it was going to be but I was still surprised when I walked in.

Mine won’t be until the summer, but I hope that it will be . . . I am such a control freak though so it is going to be hard for me to not have a hand in the planning.

mine was supposed to be a surprise, and I SOOOOOO wanted it to be a surprise...BUT
exactly one week before the shower, at our new neice's christening, where FH and I were the godparents, FH's aunt's first words out of her mouth...mind you, i've met this woman one time before this...says, ' So, your shower is next weekend?'
this was my face then turned to . Then to this
I was SO ticked off. I wanted my shower to be the one thing that I walked into and had no idea...and she ruined it.

Nope since I don't live in NY and am in school full time, I told my mom the weekend that I wanted it
She liked not having to worry about the suprise so my sister's isn't either now.
And my VA shower wasn't a surprise since outside of NY area most aren't.

My MoH actually asked me which date would be good for me. So I know who's coming, what day, what time, even where. Except the 'theme,' they tell me, which kinda scares me.
She mailed out save the date cards for the shower, and everyone seems to have them tacked on their respective refrigerators, in plain sight. If it was supposed to be a surprise, the cat's definitely out of the bag.
Which is just fine with me--I hate surprises too. You get to a certain age, and you know you're getting one anyway...

Mine is not a surprise, b/c my MOH is coming from San Diego, so we have to have the bachelorette party and shower in the same weekend. FMIL is appalled that I know about the shower (she is a traditionalist), but she has come around to the idea. I am trying to stay as uninvolved in the planning as possible, which is much harder than I thought it would be!!
