OK, I want to wash our white down comforter... Emma brought some pretty pink juice into bed one night cause Daddy said it was ok Anywho I need to wash it. The directions say when I dry it to use a commercial dryer (which I plan to) but to dry it with tennis balls!!?? Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Washing a Down Comforter
I didn't think you could wash a down comforter. I thought it was dry clean only, and that is why I ran out and bought a Duvet cover! You mean you can wash them??

yeah whenever i dry down i use tennis balls or the down will get all lumpy this keeps it pumped up and the down moving around while in the drier

The care label on it says I can wash it in a big washing machine

Yes, I have washed down comforters before, and they always come out fine. Just make sure that you use the tennis balls, because one time I didn't, and I scorched my whole comforter. It smelled so bad that I had to throw it out and buy a new one.

Re: Washing a Down Comforter
no, not at all. It might be a good idea to wash the tennis balls first though. But yeah, the time I didn't use the tennis balls, all of the feathers just sat at the bottom of the dryer as the top of the comforter tossed around. So whatever just stayed in one place just burned. It smelled SOOO bad, I was so annoyed. ETA: I meant wash the balls even if they are new, just incase any fuzz wants to come off, it will most likely come off in the first washing, though that has never happened to me. I know you obviously wouldn't use some dirty old tennis balls.

Did you wash it at home or at a laundromat? Do people working there have a problem with you putting tennis balls in their machines?

Re: Washing a Down Comforter
It will fluff it up in the dryer so all the down won't stick together.
I'm not sure about the laudrymat. But I've seen people drying sneakers so I'd ask them first.

I wash my down comforter at the landromat because its too big to fit in my machine. And I dry it there as well. I think they ask you to use tennis balls so that the feathers get moved around to dry evenly.
