I wore a dry clean only shirt yesterday and I want to wash it - I'm too lazy to go the cleaners or wait for more dry cleaning stuff.
Has anyone done this? Did it come out OK? Do you think I could do it on the handwash cycle and hang dry?
Thanks.

Re: Washing a Dry Clean Only
i usually wash stuff in the sink in cold water and woolite and then hang dry. i have yet to ruin anything, but you never know. if it's something expensive or something you really like you might not want to chance it.

i've been wondering the same thing. I have something 100% cotton and it says dry clean only. I wash plenty of cotton things and i actually want to shrink this item, so i may try washing it. we'll see how it goes.

I wash a majority of my dry clean onlies.... I hang them dry and so far I've been pretty lucky with 'em. I wouldn't do it with a suit or sweater but I've done blouses, skirts and trousers.

Isn't there some sort of wash you can do where you just put the shirt in the dryer and it cleans it that way? Kinda like a 'dry clean'.
I dunno... since I don't do laundry.. im probably wrong and don't know what I am talking about.

just do not put it in the dryer - especially if it has a liner....i talk from the experience of losing my fav skirt by accident!!! (and the poor dh who did it!!!!)

If you have a dryer can you use the Dryel kit? It works pretty well.

It depends what it is.
I hand wash certain things in cold water and a mild soap. I let them hang dry. I've washed pants, skirts, and tops. I've never washed anything with a lining, though.

Re: Washing a Dry Clean Only
I wash nearly all of my dry clean only items on the gentle cycle in cold water and then lay them out flat to dry. I've done it for years, to save money and b/c I never feel like dry cleaning really cleans to my liking.

Re: Washing a Dry Clean Only
The only time you can run into a problem is if the garment is silk or rayon. A lot of time clothing manufacturers will use a spray sizing on these products that is water disolvable and when you get the clothes wet (really wet) it comes out. The clothes will disort and no amount of ironing will fix it. My suggest would be stick an end in water for a little bit let it dry and if all is ok then proceed. (BTW I worked in a dry cleaner all through HS)

I just wanted to tell you that the shirt came out fine. I washed it on the handwash cycle and used woolite -- Thanks everyone.
