washington DC?

John and I are thinking of taking a trip to go site seeing etc. What is the best way to do this? Id rather fly 1 hour on jet blue then drive. Would we have to rent a car down there or are there shuttles? Where is a really nice but central located hotel? and any restaurant suggestions?

Oh also John was hoping to catch a capitals/rangers game. is there stadium anywhere near that?
thanks girls

Re: washington DC?

you can see what Amtrak costs to get down there. Unless you can get a cheap flight into Regan National you really don't want to fly into Dulles to far out of the city. Once you get down there you can get around on the metro so you don't need a car. Not sure about where the stadium is because I think its changed since I lived there but you will be able to get to it without too much of a problem. Look for hotels in NW section...like Georgetown and stuff. Stay out of SW and SE unless you want to get killed....really unsafe areas....all the touristy places ar safe. HAVE FUN!!!!!

ohhh you can even stay in Arlington...right across the bridge from DC and one Metro stop (might be cheaper)

when we flew to baltimore it was like $50 one way on southwest- really cheap. BWI airport is very close to DC. and if you live in suffolk you can fly right out of islip!
the Metro is their train system there, you wouldn't necessarily need to rent a car! when i did DC we walked everywhere!

yep, southwest is really cheap to BWI, but just be careful if you fly in there, because it is about 30 miles away from DC so you will need to rent a car if you do this!!!! the metro doesn't go out that far into Maryland

I live in the DC area.

If you are coming from LI, I would suggest you take Southwest to BWI. You could then take either the MARC Train or Amtrak from BWI in to Union Station. If you are coming from the City, take either the US Air or Delta Shuttles out of LGA to go to Regan National (DCA). DCA is on the Blue/Yellow Metro Line.

Jet Blue flies into Dulles Airport which is not on a metro line and you'd either have to rent a car (which is pretty unnecessary if you are only going to be in the city) or take a $70 cab ride into DC.

There is also good Amtrak service in and out of DC through Union Station. It's an approx 4 hr train ride from Penn to Union. It can be as expensive as the shuttles depending on times, so if you check the schedule you can do it on the cheap.

I would HIGHLY recommend, however, not renting a car down here if you can help it. DC is a very walkable city and parking can be tough or cost a fair amount. If you do decide to drive down, some hotels do give free parking. There is a strip of good hotels here in Northern VA in Crystal City and Pentagon City They are on top of the metro and there are restaurants and shops near by. Hotels in DC proper are much more expensive, and some are in dicey neighborhoods.

HTH. Feel free to FM too if you have any other questions!

Re: washington DC?

We just got back from a trip to DC this weekend.

We stayed just a few blocks from the capital at the hotel Liaison.

HOTEL

We werent far from everything we wanted to see, so we took taxi's except when we went to a National's Baseball game when we took the Metro.

Fogo do Chao was a great restaurant we visited that was nearby to our hotel.

We flew Jetblue for $60 each way. It was a great little getaway!

I also live in Washington DC.

Whenever I travel to NYC I prefer to take the Acella train. The DC Metro is very easy to navigate, the bus and auxiliary train systems are not as easy for people who are not local.

If you would like specific help feel free to FM me
