to go shopping for wedding gowns? I have been putting off shopping for my gown for a while now and have been using the excuse 'I have plenty of time' buttt I really am scared to go! I really want to be about 20 pounds thinner for my wedding and have not been able to get on the ball with a strict diet. I am fearful that I am going to hate everything on me or that I won't be able to zipper any dress up ! I know this sounds silly, and people tell me that once I go I will get excited but I don't know! Has anyone else felt this way and turned out having a great experience?? Also, what are typical sample sizes these days??
I finally made my first two appointments for Saturday....Wish me luck!
Update 6/1/08-
Thank you all for your encouraging words that eased my fears about dress shopping. As I said, I had two appointments yesterday and had wonderful experiences !! The first shop was particularly amazing though (FM me for salon details). I was honest with the saleswoman who worked with me and she was fabulous at making me feel comfortable. I told her that I knew she wouldn't be able to zipper any of the dresses but she said don't worry that is what I am here for - I will make them fit and she did!!!! I actually loved almost EVERY dress I tried on. However, I think I found my dream dress !!!! I didn't get a chance to go through all of the racks at the store because I got stuck on the Kenneth Pool dresses lol. I tried on about 15 and the woman helped me in and out of each one...pinned them etc. So, before I make my decision I am going to go back and try on a few more just to be sure. It is def more than I want to spend but I just loved it so much and I can't stop thinking about it!
Being that I fell in love with all of the dresses at the first salon, my head wasn't really in to the next appointment. Nothing compared and the service wasn't as great. I know the saleswoman tried but it was more because of me...
Overall though it was great and I can't wait to go back to the first store!!!!
Thank you again!

i've been feeling that way too. i went once and the bitchiest bridezilla (my MOH said something about her as soon as we got in the car before i even had a chance) was there at the same time and it has only made it more intimidating to go back. i'm on a diet, so my goal is the end of the summer, along w/ a lot of other things.

I think you will be fine. Don't worry. Sample sizes usually range from an 8-10. If you try Davids for the experience, you can try any gown. I am sure you will look beautiful no matter what!!!!!!! There are plenty of dresses out there and you will find one that you love- I promise!!!!!

I am not scared...I am going in August but I am worried that one I love will be way too expensive...I keep trying to find how much it is but all I get is a rating, no exact price.

No need to be scared! The samples ive tried on were as big as 14.... swimminnnnn on me smallest was 10 i believe
I suggest looking asap.... never know how long it may take fopr you to find 'the one' i think when you know its the one, you will be able to look past your weight and just see the dress as beautiful!

I wouldn't worry about the sizes. The samples range....I tried on ones as small as 8 and as large as 14. It works both ways....either the dresses are huge or they will be too small. either way you kinda just have to trust yourself on the feeling you get. You will find the perfect gown just don;t freak if it isnt in the first few trips.

I felt the same exact way and was dragged dress shopping by one of my BMs. I had a great time and can't wait to go back. I don't know the sample sizes, but even if they don't fit you, they have clamps to show how it would look like. You need to just go. I was nervous until the second I had the first dress on. You probably will be too, but try and make the best of it and I'm sure you will find it to be the opposite of what you think it is.

Don't worry yourself too much!! You will go absolutely bonkers I was a little reserved when going to get my dress. But, after finding my 'dream dress' I watch what I eat. I have tone down the eating habits and cut out the sweets. You will be fine

I wear a 4 usually in dresses (for lack of chest area..although my behind...super huge) and they had me try on a 8 that was swimming on me... They usually have larger sample sizes...
