Hey! I was watching my new favorite show yesterday 'A Baby Story' and there was a water birth. I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about this... Has anyone given birth this way or anyone considering giving birth this way?? Does anyone know the benefits of giving birth in water? Thanks!!! baby dust to all

Re: Water Birth
Supposively, and I don't know I've only heard, that it is less of a shock to the baby's system and your baby is supposed to have a more laid back demeanor. Just passing along what I've heard, it may be wrong.

Re: Water Birth
I was actually talking to my DH the other day about this while I was taking a bath. I thought it would be be so nice and relaxing to deliver in the water at home. He on the other hand had the negative view of what if something went wrong. So when the time comes I am going to look for a place where I can have the option of delivering in water. I have seen it on Baby story too and it looks like such a more relaxed atmosphere and such a better way for the baby to enter the world.

I've also heard it is less stressful for the baby b/c it mimics the mother's womb. I think there are places like maybe St. Vincent's in the city (they took over the Elizabeth Seaton Center) where you can do this, medically supervised, etc. so Dr.'s are right there.
I never really thought about until I read something on the topic, but it does make some sense that the baby is basically traumatized for the first 15 minutes or so, going from a warm darkish womb to the cold bright lights.
Here's a wbsite from a practice in NH that offers water birth, it's obviously not for us NYer's but it has some good basic info:
not ttc, but for years, this was something that i wanted to do when the day did come. dh laughs and says no, but i would want to find a hospital that did it. just seems like a beautiful way to enter the world.
