Okay so I'm kinda freaking out. I started working out about a month ago 4-5 times a week doing cardio and weights, crunches, etc. I have been eating healthy, watching calories, and drinking a ton of water. I'm due for my period in about 4 days as well. I noticed that I had gained a few lbs since I started working out. I'm usually 5'4 and 114 and not trying to lose any weight...just tone up and get healthy. I got up to 116.5 and just figured it was water weight and/or muscle weight, etc. The scale went down to 115. Well I just weighed myself again(stupid I know) and now I'm up to 118.5!! How is that possible? There is NO way I ate that many calories. I have been trying to stay between 1500 which is what I'm supposed to be eating. Can this all be water weight? Has anyone else gained this much weight before their period even if they have been working out and eating right? Thanks so much.

Thanks so much for answering! So it's definitely temporary right? I mean I never realized how much water weight you can really gain!! Is there anything I can do to help it? Or just keep drinking water?

Definitely water weight. You can fluctuate up to 5 lbs with water weight!!!!!!!!!!! Really really watch your sodium intake every day. When I was preparing for b-pics I had almost no sodium for like 10 days, and TONS of water. I also took a water pill (and a potassium supplement bc water pills eat your potassium) the day before the shoot and peed out 3 lbs of water weight! Water pills aren't to be used often though, and are not that good for you, but I wanted to have no water retention for the shoot. Also your period can bloat you and make you retain water.

just drink drink drink...i dont take water pills or anything like that...i am freaked out by them lol. Lots of water, limit sodium intake and you will be good to go! Also as far as period water weight for some reason having chocolate can increase this so stay away if possible!!

Do you know where I can get water pills from? Not that I'm planning on using them often but I really think I need to take one now. I just feel sooo uncomfortable. Thanks so much.

It's funny because the more I drink it seems like the more weight I put on LOL...but as long as I know this is temporary I guess I'm okay with it.

Ok cool thanks so much. I definitely feel better. I just thought that 5 lbs seemed like a lot of water weight to gain ugh...it's frustrating but I think i'm going to stop weighing myself until I get my period.

Re: Water weight question???
Probably a little DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). That means lactic acid is built up in your muscles. With your period coming it could def be some water weight too.
Drink lots of water, this will actually help flush the excess water out that you are retaining.
