I am getting married next month and I got a letter stating that I need to come in to tell them my menu selections . . . .DO WE NOT HAVE A TASTING? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Re: WATERMILL BRIDES
My friend got married there and the only way they could taste the food was to eat at the restaurant there. That was over a year ago though, so they may have changed their policy - call them.

Re: WATERMILL BRIDES
well there is no more restuarant there, so thats not an option..I would call or email your banquet manager, I e-mail mine all the time and he gets back to me very quickly.

Re: WATERMILL BRIDES
My MOH went to a wedding there last week, said the food was okay. She then found out that for smaller weddings, the restaurant makes the food. For larger weddings, the catering part does the food. SO if the food tasting is provided by the restaurant, that makes a difference. Just a little FYI.

No, they do not give tastings. Definitely a down side, but I think they have a good enough reputation that I am not too worried. Did they give you the little sampler when you went to look at the place? With the fresh mozzarella?!

Re: WATERMILL BRIDES
Wanted to add...the Watermill does not do ANY off site catering..I asked my BM after seeing the above post as I thought it was different then what they told me.
By BM states they made everything there by their chefs even the cakes.
If you are ADAMANT with getting a tasting and put up a fuss they will give you one.
I went to a wedding there last year and it was the best food ever, that was the biggest part of us booking them.
p.s If it matters (I saw it as bragging but whatever) my BM manager said the Watermill head chef has been in over 40 cooking magazines over the last 2 years and won numerous awards)
Didnt they pull the magazines out for you when you booked? I thought it was overkill actually..

Re: WATERMILL BRIDES
I got married there in February 2003 and they informed us that they did not do food tastings there. The way our manager explained it to us is that any place can give you the biggest shrimp and the best tasting food the day you sample it but that doesn't mean you will get it that way on your wedding day. We trusted that the Watermill would have great food and we were not disappointed because it was absolutely delicious! Our guests still rave about our wedding to this day! You have nothing to worry about!

I think many places would say something like this so that they don't go through the trouble of providing a tasting for their potential customers. It is true that you cannot be 100% sure that your food will taste the same way as the day of your tasting (most of the time it does) BUT you can always have something to compare and make an informed decision. I'd NEVER book a place if I haven't had the tasting. Even though it might not be the same, you can always get a pretty good idea of what to expect the day of. I feel personally that if you don't have the time to provide a tasting for me whom is a potential client to book your business, then obviously why should I consider any further to have dealing business with any catering place. They can always arrange to provide seating at a discreet place within the premises and feed you with the food that they are providing for another gathering that they are providing their services. JMO

Re: WATERMILL BRIDES
The BM we booked through told us that we would be able to taste some of the dishes before deciding on our menu for the wedding.
