WATERMILL thread

Re: WATERMILL thread

you cannot have your own chair covers brought in I was told. Oh well.

The table clothes come in lot of different colors.

Did anyone get any 'extras' thrown in?

Re: WATERMILL thread

dm24angel, I think I may just stick with those chicken choices. I am not sure yet though.

I have a comment about the bathroom situation. I think that there may be guests from downstairs using the Astor Room bathroom at one point during the wedding - the cocktail hour. I asked Bruce about this. I said 'Where do my guests go to the bathroom when they are outside during cocktail hour' and he said they come in and use that bathroom by the front desk. Is that your bathroom Astor Room girls? I know that the weddings are staggered and since mine starts second, the wedding that is in the Astor Room that day will have already started, so we'll be in that bathroom at the same time for a while.

We got the chair covers thrown in for free and a few extra dishes at the CH thrown in for free.

Re: WATERMILL thread

I figured that about the bathroom situation. I'm the first bride in on my day and think there is one more wedding but I should check again. This is one reason why I might not do the bathroom baskets (even though I know they are popular). My MOH and I were talking about this today. She spend a fortune on hers, her room had it's own bathroom. Two of her cousins (she thinks) took everything in the basket. Maybe I'll just have a bottle of hairspray and a few other incidentals, not the whole CVS store.

The high school where I teach had their prom in the Astor suite this past June. I don't think the Watermill did a great job of making sure that the parties didn't cross each other. I think they should take the second cocktail hour and walk them back around the valet parking so they go up the short staircase and immediately back down. Does anyone know about the flow of traffic?

I am so upset you can't bring your own chair covers. $5 is kinda steep, but they look so nice. Does anyone know how much extra a Venetian hr is per head?

Re: WATERMILL thread

In the 'extras' booklet it says that the Viennese table is an extra $10 a person.
For just the Viennese trays (2 per table) it's an extra $5.50 a person.

WAIT!
I didnt get an EXTRA booklet...this is tarting to annoy me...that different people are told different things!

Does it say anything about the chocolate fountain price ( it seems to be different for a lot of people?? )

What are some other extras?

Can you see I'm starting to get a little crazed over this? LOL!

Re: WATERMILL thread

LOL!! Well, I only got this extra booklet because I asked about the chocolate fountain. My BM had been saying all along that the 'prestige' menu included so much I probably wouldn't want to add anything else. On my second visit there when I went to book, (I had been torn between 2 places) I said 'Oh, yeah, do you do the chocolate fountain?' and thats when I was given the booklet.

The fountain is listed as: 500 for rental of fountain plus 1 per person for product.

Some other 'extras' are: Seafood boat on ice, hot seafood bar, ice sculptures, martini bar, california roll displays, all the viennese stuff, and on the last page it shows you the cakes you can get for additional charge.

I am surprised that they aren't actually pushing these things to make more $ off of us!!

I KNOW!

How much is the Martini BAR?? I want that, was just at a wedding where it was a HIT!

Did you get anything extra thrown in at no cost?

Are you in the Astor suite? How do I know what menu I have?

Re: WATERMILL thread

I am in the Vanderbuilt Suite. All the headings on my papers with my menu choices say things like Prestige Cocktail Hour, Prestige Chafing Dishes, Prestige Dinner, etc. It's also on my contact.

The Martini Bar (so cool!!) is 3.50 a person.

I was told I was getting one extra pasta or carving station at the cocktail hour, but I had the feeling that it was something everyone got because to me it didn't feel like much of an extra. The only extra I am getting that I am paying for is the chocolate fountain. I've wanted it for so long!

I really want chair covers but that is so much $$$! What do you have to do to get them to throw things like that in for free?

Ok, I looked at my menu and it says Prestige too....

Also..i DID NOT get any extra pasta or carving..AND I mentioned to my BM that our date was a FRIDAY during Lent and we would have a big problem with a lot of guests NOT eating meat and theny never offered more pasta...to which I emailed me BM just now INSISTING on it during Dinner to compensate for that...Now I Dont understand why some people got it so easily and others like me with a REASON for wanting pasta were made to believe it was not do-able for free....

Also, we mentioned that we didint prefer the chicken and about the one chicken having pork and again back to lent ( saying maybe some people would eat the chicken) and again the BM told us that we should relax and trust the quality of the food and not get something 'simpler'...

I'm a little pissed. ( but I'll get over it)

Re: WATERMILL thread

I e-mailed my banquet manager like I said because I was mainly upset over the little things like an extra pasta and how much that would have made me feel better regarding my day and how he gave me such a hard time about it...doesnt seem right...BUT, Im always scared to stir the pot because I'm afraid that I wont get the best service in the end ya know? Thats a dumb fear I have.

I was wondering about the menu's too? Seems we all have the same one right?

ETA- I dont want to be negative about them, I DO LOVE the Watermill so much...and they are not likly to change anything after a contract is signed , I think I got a crappy BM, I'm not too happy with him.. BUT....is anyone willing to say how much they are paying per person? I'm curious to see the difference in time of year.

Re: WATERMILL thread

About the cake, I was told it was included in my prestige menu but now I realize that it's not in my contract (maybe it's on the menu). So what does this included cake look like? Anyone know anything about it? What are our choices?

I am starting to feel I was pretty clueless when I booked.

Re: WATERMILL thread

I know the BM showed us about 5 cakes ( if I remember correctly) that we can choose from and then there were premium cakes that cost more. The regular free ones looked ok to me from what I remember.

Re: WATERMILL thread

If anyone wants to know the details of what I'm paying I'll FM them to you. I don't have the contract at work but I'll do this tonight. I'd want to give you as much info as possible.

Ladies in the Astor suite, what color centerpieces are you going to use? That is what I am working on now and I am having some problems deciding!

I'm having low centerpieces in a silve bowl. They will be a combination of circus roses, black magic roses, and lavender hygrangeas. There will be a pillar candle on each side. I dont have a pic.

Re: WATERMILL thread

I'm in the Varderbilt room (downstairs) and I'm doing shades of red and deep pink roses and peonies in a low centerpiece w/ 2 tall pillar candles on either side-
I was ALL about chair covers UNTIL I heard the price ($5 per chair !!) but I also did not like the material of the covers w/ the table linens. - I personally think it's over kill and takes away from the elegance of the room (JMO)
Also, the whole process of booking is negotiating. - Some people get a better price, some people get 'extras' thrown in. - It all depends on how the conversation is going .......it's like that w/ anything. - But honestly, I have the highest menu (Prestige I think it's called ) WHAT could you possibly add to that ?? How much can people really eat ?? I have been to weddings there and EVERYTHING is done beautifully and the food is excellent. I promise you, your guest will NOT be saying 'where was the ___' you know ?? - Unless you're really loving the fresh fish, or sushi or something like that ........but as for add ons. - I really don't think you 'need' them ! - Don't stress ! The place really does a beautiful job with everything !!
