Watermill vs Fox Hollow...

Watermill vs Fox Hollow...

ok..i think we've narrowed it down between the 2...
i'm torn between the 2...
i like everything that watermill has to offer execpt that we won't be able to use the outside chapel due to the larger party having their outside cocktail which is right next to the chapel..
we've been able to talk them down from 125 min down to 100 which is a bonus..we've gone to 2 open houses and tasted the cocktail food which was tasty and abundant ...the inside chapel is gorgeous..the grounds are great for pics and cocktail hour...the wedding cake is basic and not much variations unless extra....

Fox Hollow ..i like the outside chapel..but is close to the main road..we were able to get them to give us an outside cocktail hour...the inside cocktail room is ok..reminds me of a hunting lodge theme...the reception room WGP is stunning(love the sky lights)and would be used as the chapel if the weather is not so good..the only complaint about the room is the bar is attached to the dance floor..the other complaint about them is the small about of passed food at cocktail compared to watermill...i've tired to negotiate with them but are very firm on their offerings .but i do like that their hotel is right next door and there's a couple of others down the road for OOT guest..i have not tasted any of their food yet either...

so i'm torn about weather to get married outside and stick with fox hollow or go to watermill and just enjoy the outside cocktail ...

opinions are welcomed.... and tks for letting me vent...lol

I've been to both for weddings and other functions and, this is just my opinion, as a guest I like watermill better. Remember, this is only my opinion and I don't want to cause issues on the board...

I've never been to the Watermill, and I'm obviously Fox Hollow biased lol but I wouldn't let the issue of passed appetizers make your decision for you. fox gives you 9 set passed appetizers, plus the comfort foods that the chef always throws in that aren't technically part of those 9. and there are SO many food options for the cocktail hour stations!

I never thought of the bar being attached to the reception room as a bad thing...I don't think I've ever seen it done differently at the weddings I've been to, including the insanely high end ones. What's the downside of bar in the room?

the downside is in order for someone to get a drink you actually have to walk thur the dance floor..if you want to hang and chat at the bar with people you are apart of the dance floor..and i saw someone's review of the WGP and when they were doing their first dance all i could notice was the bartender hanging over the bar watching ...JMO

I didn't feel that was a problem because the dance floor is more skewed towards the opposite side of the room (dj booth gets set up in the big recess to the side and behind the bar) so that there is room to get out of the room/to the bar. also, there are dedicated servers at each table who take drink orders & refill whenever needed at the tables. Since the bar isn't huge I didn't think of it as a place to congregate.

Then again, your wedding could have a much different feel than mine so these are all issues that could be more important with a bigger guest list/at night/etc. I just love Fox Hollow WGP lol.

I'm having my reception in the WGR, so I am bias. I think you raise a good point about the bartender in your picture.. who would want that? I also think there are a few ways to avoid it happening, Talk to your photographer and make it a point that you do not want the bartender in your first dance shot and also talk to the maitre d. I am sure that they can pull the bartender for the 3 minute song.

great point! no one should be getting up and getting a drink while you're dancing anyway...otherwise my problem would be with those obnoxious guests, not even the bartender

Are they trying to say that getting a drink is more important then watching me and fh dance? I THINK NOT!!! totally kidding, but this is something i will be bringing up to both the Fox Hollow and my Photographer.

Re: Watermill vs Fox Hollow...

it wasn't the photographer that i saw the bartender ..it was in someone's video...and i was like they look great but wait there's the bartender just hanging around....

Re: Watermill vs Fox Hollow...

was it a professional video or a guest? because i think that I would then talk to them and the maitre d and just get that bartender completely out of there.

just so you know you can have the tables setup on each side and none in the middle so you can use the middle and the dance floor so your first dance doesn't have to be close to the bar.

I am booked at Watermill but FH's brother got married at Fox Hollow. I don't think you can go wrong with either place. We chose Watermill because of the abundance of cocktail hour foods, etc. Sorry I am not much help!

Can't wait to read both your reviews on the watermill, I'm there on 9/15/12. But, been there for weddings and other events and they have always been great, that's why we booked there.
