Waxing question

Waxing question

I know this topic has come before, but I'm still confused. I've never had anything waxed, so my question is how many days before my wedding should I wax?

Re: Waxing question

Nina - what are you waxing? I would suggest a week and a half before. Sometimes (especially if you have never done it), there could be a rash, tiny little bumps and irritation. Make sure they use a soothing oil after - like baby oil and some powder. Good luck! (if you are doing brazilian I really suggest the J Sisters in the city. Almost painless - well sort of... - and very effective!)

Re: Waxing question

I have had pretty much everything done at some point! The Brazilian wax is a VERY extreme bikini wax....Like everything goes except the tiniest 'landing strip' or however you like it. Otherwise, it's a very exposing moment! But it lasts for a good 4 months - I suggest it. But they are very good and gentle there at J. Sisters. I think it's on 57th St. and maybe around 6th. They are very busy though - book early. As far as other waxing, you can do that at any salon really. Good luck!

Re: Waxing question

I am going to do lip, underarms and bikini. I thought 10 days before my wedding would be good, but what if hair starts growing back in that time and before my honeymoon? I was going to go to one of the Asian-owned salons that I get my $7 manicures in. But, now I'm thinking I should go somewhere else and pay more. How much is J.Sisters for bikini?

Re: Waxing question

I think you should go only about 4or 5 days before, i got my waxing done for my wedding last thursday, and while my eyebrows are fine my underarms have already started to grow back.. i think it depends on the individual.. i got the brazilian last thursday also.. and while for some reason the lady who does it didnt make me feel uncomfortable AT ALL.. i was very relaxed, it hurt alot!!! if this is your first time you should tell them you dont want the wax to hot.. you could get skin blisters.. and if that happens, tell them right away.. the lady that does mine gives me this frozen blue bal thing to roll over my eyes to cool them down...then just to make sure i put a little ice on them when i get home..

As another 'never been waxed' bride, (forgive the semi-graphic nature of this) - how long should the hair be in your underarms and bikini area when you go? I remember once hearing the longer the better for less pain.

i started growing mine out about a month before the wedding... but since my hair grows so fast i was giving my husband a run for his money!! LOL..it should be hair...not stuble...the pain for underarm waxing lasts like not even one second.. i dont do it often (i dont like having to grow it out all the time) i only do it on occasions that i am wearing a sleeveless dress..but they say the more you do it the hair becomes thinner..

Re: Waxing question

Nina, I would be careful esp. on the upper lip if you never waxed there before. I had a very bad reaction on my eyebrows the first time I went (a year ago). I had a actual scab on my eye for at least a week. It scared me off for awhile but now I have been going regularly (every 2 weeks) for about 2 1/2 months and have no problems. Someone told me they had the same reaction on their upper lip but never on their eyebrow. I guess everyone's skin is different and some parts are more sensitive than others. If you have the luxury of time I would go at least a month to try it out. (PS the first time I had my eyebrows done I went to a more expensive salon. Since then I go to the local places and get them done for $5 and never had a problem.)

As for bikini line, if it is your first time I would go about 5 days before. The first few times you wax it seems the hair grows back fast. Once you start going regularly it takes longer to grow back!

Good Luck. Waxing can be addictive! : )

Re: Waxing question

oh no, my skin is very sensitive, the last time i had a facial i got hives. and, i am allergic to everything. i don't have much hair on my upper lip, but someone told me that hair shows in pics? i get my eyebrows theaded so that's taken care of. my dress is strapless, so i have to do my underarms, and for aruba i wanted to do the bikini area.
My problem is that my wedding is 3 weeks away so i don't have time to do a trial and wait for the hair to grow back!

Re: Waxing question

I know this is going to sound weird...but plucking your underarms does not really hurt...get a waxing and then everyday look for hairs...this goes for all waxed areas...you just have to be diligent in the plucking...

If you have sensitive skin, you should definitely be careful, especially with your lip wax, I get my eyebrows done all the time, and I still get puffy and red sometimes for a few days, you may want to try it in the next couple of days to see how it goes. Did you think about maybe bleaching it instead? Either way, good luck with it.
