Do we REALLY need to lie about the fact that we live together? I'm just afraid that he'll decide not to marry us if he knows we live in sin We are probably the furthest thing from good Catholics anymore, any advice for us? What kinds of things is he going to ask us? I need to be prepared!

Don't lie about living together...Our Deacon was really nice when we first met him...He was down to earth & was like, I know you do things that you really shouldn't be, but that is your choice. My FH kept saying 'well when we go away together' & he just chuckled...They are married themselves..If they ask, be honest!

My grandmother told me that I need to be careful what I say because each of them have different views and that as much as she likes to think the church is progressing, that we need to make sure he agrees to marry us before we give him too much info Leave it to grandma to give me the truth! HAHA. I don't know, I've had bad experiences with the church in my times, so me even stepping foot in one tonight is a HUGE deal. I always feel like I am being judged and it makes me instantly uncomfortable.

I met with the priest that is gong to marry us and he didn't ask whether or not we lived together. I have a Deacon friend who said that if you're living together he won't preform a nuptual mass. If you're just having a ceremony then I wouldn't worry about it. I personally wouldn't lie to the Deacon but like I said, I met with the priest and he didn't even ask me. Let us know and don't worry about it.

My fi is Catholic and Im not, but it was important to him to get married in a catholic church. I was kind of scared, not knowing what he would ask. But he was really nice, he talked alot about his own family. He gave each of us 'interviews' (a little scary) asking how we met, how do our families feel about this, do we get along with our future in laws etc. He told me if I lied, I wouldnt be lying to him, but to the God we both believed in. holy poop. THEN he asked me if I planned to raise my children Catholic. Right now I dont want to, but I dont know what I'll feel when the time comes to pop some kids out, so i told him Id consider it. That was fine with him. For your question, I would say to phrase it in a way acceptable to him.

See, this is what bothers me about the Catholics. ARGH! I wouldn't LIE if you didn't make me FEEL LIKE I HAD TO!
When I was 13 and in my confirmation class, another place they always told you not to lie, we were all supposed to make pro-life posters as part of our requirements for confirmation class. Well, my mother being the women's rights advocate that she is, had just taken my sister and I on a pro-choice rally, so I said I couldn't make the poster. When the priest asked me why, I told him because I am pro-choice. Well, he did not like that very much, told me God didn't love me and to get out of his church. Needless to say, my mother paid a hefty amount of money the next year so I could finally make my confirmation.....
And the moral of that story, I don't believe them when they say I shouldn't lie
