what industrious FH's!

oh please wait until you see our apartment ( willl post pics when it is done ) all different woods and the couches dont match

hey its our first apartment and i basically put out an open call to all our family and friends - if they were getting rid of it we were taking it - even if it TOTALLY doesnt match. . .

gotta save money somehow!!!

omg thats what we did when we moved into our first apartment....my parents were moving to florida so they gave us all of their 'junk' we had ugly couches so we put cheap slipcovers on them for months until we got our sofas.....we had all mismatched china, mismatched towels, mismatched EVERYTHING! then little by little we started getting things - and now all of our things are new and they match! thank god! but it took awhile hey something is better than nothing right!!

There's nothing wrong with that! I bartered services for our e-pictures. A co-worker of mine this summer is a fabulous photographer with fancy camera equipment, etc. She did 2 days of engagement photos with us and I painted her a picture --- cost me appx $25 + paint I already had + some of my time and we ended up with 200+ gorgeous gorgeous pictures.

We also have 2 sweet couches in our apt (one is a leather couch) both of which we got for free!

my FH tries to make deals with some of our vendors. Like a barter contract or something lol The best is when we were at the church booking it, there was something going on in the church itself so we had to go out a back entrance. We walked through this dark hallway, I guess it was used for storage too b/c there was crap everywhere, could barely walk. SO the priest made a comment about getting someone to put new shelves in..so Jimmy was like I'LL DO IT!!! the priest was like really?? So FH was like yes i can easily do it. So the priest said he'd take that off the fee we have to pay them for the ceremony lololol
Then FH (when we were looking for DJs instead of a band) made a deal with a DJ company to put a new bathroom in his house in exchange for them to do our wedding haha
And FH also takes alot of scrap metal and copper from the different homes he works on and piles it in the garage. So everytime he comes home with more he goes 'I just brought home another payment to the NRC' lol

that is awesome!

and don't feel bad my father has been spreading the word around to his friend at Home Depot to keep their eyes out for tools that are being discontinued and thrown out.

It's like a public collection for the poor.

oh yeah i forgot - most of our tiles, linoleum, carpeting - we picked all the discontinued or sample stuff bc its such a small area, we can do that

too funny

i was even telling steve today about this cardboard furniture we bought from target - so cute but its that compressed cardboard stuff. . . Anthony leaned on it to stand up and his hand went THROUGH it so we just put something on top of it to hide it

we can have this stuff now before we have kids destroying everything!

so true!

Re: we are poor.

My FH barters computer services for wedding things and sometimes I am his pimp.

I was out at Vineyard 48 the day of Harvest Fest and the owners wife was selling cute mud pie stuff so I was asking her if she had a store and she said no but she is starting an online business but needed someone to build the website. So i pimped out FH for discount on bridal party gifts!!!!!!!! They are in the beginning stage so hopefully it goes through!
