We had to take my dad to the ER on Christmas Eve night

When he walked into my aunt's house, his left wrist was grossly swollen. This was 5pm. For the next five hours, I begged him to leave and go the ER (my mother's begging for the previous 48 hours went ignored).

He ate his dinner through the pain, like the soldier that he is. He grimaced after dinner. He ate his dessert with his right hand, holding up his left one, trying to convice us that the cannolis were making him feel better. I got his coat and told him that I wasn't asking him anymore and to get his azz in the car. Then he was ready to go.
Finally, finally, finally at 11pm, my mother and I walk into the ER.

Do you know how many young guys seek treatment for chest pains only to be told that its indigestion?

Anyway...in under one hour, Dad is x-rayed, shot up with a pain killer and wrist wrapped. Severe tendonitis. Slept through the night (unlike the previous two nights) and woke up ready to Christmas Day feast.

I'm glad your Dad is better! I too am the voice of reason and the 'bad guy' that forces people to the doctor or the hospital.

Better safe than sorry. Good for you, taking care of Dad.

Im so sorry that your father was in such discomfort. As our parents get older, they need their children to act as advocates. You did the right thing by insisting that he went to the ER.

It's kind of like Papa Smurf - except we know that you just called him Papa Penis.

He's FINE. Still wrist wrapped but he should be back to normal my next week.

Glad to hear it's nothing crazy. Like botulism. Don't you think that should make you swell up? I don't know if it does. It just sounds like it would make you blow up.
