We just signed up for Pre-Cana

I am dreading every second of it. The good thing is we can get it done in one weekend.

We did the weekend and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Don't dread it...we actually surprisingly enjoyed some of it!

I really liked Pre-Cana. I had the same feelings as you prior to it. It was fun. You'll have a good time.

we did the 1 day Saturday thing and I liked it - FH was kinda bored and the bad thing was we had to sit on elementary school wooden chairs all day! But the exercises are interesting. I wrote lines and lines of romantic stuff and FH wrote like one or 2 words

I just mailed out my registration form with the fee. I am dreading it too, but ours is only 1 saturday from 9-4:30. How bad could it be for a few hours?

You know I have to say, I really liked pre-cana. It's not so much about religion as it is learning about each other and just talking about your marriage expectations. It reminded us how much we've been through together and how much we will go through together for the rest of our lives.

Try not to dread it too much, you may actually like it.

I think that if you go into it with an open mind then it won't be so bad. Well thats what I've been trying to tell FH! As much as he is teasing me with him saying hes not going to talk at all when we have to do it I think that he will kinda be ok with it.

Did any of you have to take the FOCCUS test? I think that it wasn't too bad. It made us discuss issues that we never talked about.

hmm... we have to go for the FOCCUS. I'm not sure what to expect. After that is there still a pre cana type thing for a few weeks?

Re: We just signed up for Pre-Cana

what is a foccus test and pre-cana?

Re: We just signed up for Pre-Cana

i have to do that too!!!!!!!
its a catholic church thing(this is what my church wrote
'FOCCUS (facilitating, open, couple, communication, understanding, and study)test a series of questions given separatly to both parties, to identify strenghts and weaknesses in your relationship, once completed it will be reviewd and evalutated with you to pinpoint areas where you need further discussion'(recent within the last few years i think..........

Precana- important requirement in preparation to be married. a wonderful and vital opportunity for couples to dialog , share and reflect on issues that will shape their marraige for years to come.
--------- basically the church is trying to make sure you two are compatible before you get married so that you dont end up part of the divorce statistic

Re: We just signed up for Pre-Cana

I am doing the engaged encounter weekend. Signed up for it at Rockville Centre (Diocese). It is from a Friday evening until Sunday morning. You stay at a retreat and I can only imaging what types of questions they ask us--maybe I will be taking that Foccus test????? I am in going in October and I will be sure to let my liweddings friends know the details. Wish me luck!

Re: We just signed up for Pre-Cana

Ok.. another dumb question..

Is this supposed to be helpful? This would tick me the heck off..

I mean how can I fail this test? I mean I wanted the marry the guy, right? 3 and a half years of dating, one year of living together.. and you want me to expect a clergy to tell me if it's ok?

My Dad was catholic.. as is most of my family.. but this sorta stuff always bothered me..

am I a terrible person?
