DH and I weren't present for the engineer's inspection, my FIL was. He didn't realize some of the things the homeowners told us. We made a big first time home buyer mistake and we just took everyone's word that the report came back fine. It did, but 2 things that were supposed to be new aren't, like the roof and boiler.
I feel like such a dope for not reading the report b/4 signing the contract.
Any words of wisdom on any way to make this right w/the sellers.

hi,
well as long as you haven't closed yet, you can still (through your attorney) present the items to be fixed to the sellers. and the roof and boiler are BIG deals...so definitely bring it up.

if you already signed the contract, I don't think there is anything you can do. Ask your RE agent what to do.....your RE should have looked at it also. We read our full report before anything

Our lawyer is going to talk to their lawyer, I think we are scr@#@#@ at this point. I can't believe we just took everyone's word for it and didn't scrutinize things.
I spoke to the RE she told me it probably would not have made a difference, the people were very firm on where we got them down too. Since the items don't need to be replaced anytime soon she doesn't think they would have negotiated further.

Your RE is right if the items do not to be replaced immediately then there is nothing you can do- sorry.
