We moved the wedding WAY up!

Hi all! We were originally planning for next Memorial Day weekend, but we decided to do it sooner, so now we are getting married on November 5! I'm excited but we have sooo much to do. Has anyone made their own invitations?

Re: We moved the wedding WAY up!

yes i did! it was a long and arduous process but worth it because i look back and know i made them. i got blank cards and envelopes from michaels. i bought them on sale, so i got a pack of 50 white cards for like 8 bucks. i bought two, so 16$. then i bought vellum off of ebay in a size that fit the cards, so it was like less than 8$ for 100 pieces. Then i bought wrapping paper for 5 $ for several rolls. Then i had to buy (but wanted anyway) a heat embosser 20$, rubber stamp 8$ and embossing powder $4, ribbon and calligraphic pens. in all the costs for the invites were about 30$ because the other tools were part of my craft collection and will be used again.

anyway, i printed the wording on the vellum on our laser printer (best purchase ever made in the whole wide world). I also played around with the enveloped and printed our return address on the flap. that was a pain, but finally it happened. i used the rubber stamp and stamped using the embossing ink and then the powder an image of a rose. I did it in an assembly line process, so after i stamped and powdered 10, i used the heat embosser and got a raised image. when i was done, i attached the vellum to the cards with color coordinated satin ribbon. i made a perfect bow thanks to the help of jenny2penny's tip.
how to tie a bow

Then i cut the roll of wrapping paper into several short rolls according to the length of the envelope. This is where I got anal and lined the envelopes. i basically slid the paper in, cut it around the tip of the envelope, folded along the glue lines, cut again and glued the wrapping paper to the envelope. it made the envelopes mure heavy and elegant.
sorry this was so long.

We're in the process of assembling our DIY invites and it's taking MUCH longer than expected. We designed, printed, cut, and adhered every single piece ourselves. I'm happy we decided to do this ourselves though, because we got exactly what we wanted.

Good luck!!
