We need a church!

We need a church!

Ok, we need help...many of you read my post about my church saying no to marrying us because we are getting married during lent...now we don't know what to do...

do we look for any church and explain the reasoning, I mean now we have an 'excuse' for not going with our original one...

Anyone know of any nice churches that might marry us during lent...we would be looking near our home ( Lindenhurst, Babylon area) and near the Hall ( watermill, Smithtown, Ronkonkoma)

THanks so much, I'm afraid if I put this off I won't find anything, but I don;t know where to start and am kinda scared I will keep getting no's!

Re: We need a church!

I am getting married at St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church in Smithtown. It is literally less than a mile from the Watermill. It is on 25A. It is an absolutely beautiful church, brand new and I believe the Lent issue wouldn't be an issue. I am using Father Frank, who is stern, but fair. Try and call the rectory and see if they can help you. It is beautiful. Good luck.

Also there is a catholic church in Nesconset. Close to Ronkonkoma. It is also very pretty. It is called Holy Cross on Nichols Road. You can try there also.

I know Holy Cross, used to live down the block...I'm just wondering if I'm going to run into this problem everywhere. My church was Episcopal and FI is Catholic but we would be open to ther types of churchs.

It usually does not matter if one person is not Catholic. I am not and we are getting married in a Catholic church. FI is Catholic. I just had to fill out some paper and be approved by the bishop. Good Luck

Try Our Lady of Grace in West Babyon or OLPH in Lindenhurst....I dont know what church you already talked to but both of those are really nice churches!

My sister got married at St. Patricks in Bay Shore on a Saturday during Lent and my bil got married at Holy Cross in Nesconset on a Sunday during Lent. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Re: We need a church!

did you try St. Joseph's in Babylon? that is where we got married - it is absolutely gorgeous.

ETA: i have been thinking about you
i am not sure if you should explain why the other church said no - what if the other churches side with your first church to save face?? maybe if they 'normally' would have allowed it, once they hear another religious institution said no, they might feel compelled to agree with them. the church can be funny sometimes.

best of luck to you!!

honestly, i have no idea!! maybe it's safe to tell them the real reason??? i know they are very weird about certain things - so it's hard to gauge how they would react.
