We purchased Paul's furniture and crib!

We purchased Paul's furniture and crib!

Whew - what a process this was!! We shopped, shopped and shopped some more. We finally bought Paul's full sized crib and furniture this past weekend at Behr's and I can't wait to get it! I have been dreaming about creating a beautiful room for my son since I found out I was having a boy. Apartment dwelling and moving across the country to a temporary situation at my parent's house for 6 months has prevented me from doing it until now. I am SO EXCITED!!! I feel like a new Mom all over again! LOL!

We chose what they call a 'super station' dresser and hutch from the Bridgeport Collection by Legacy/ChildCraft. The color is Pecan. It is beautiful! Here's a photo where you can see the dresser...this is not the right color, but you'll get the idea. It's the piece to the right of the crib:

For the crib, we chose a beautiful convertible crib by Bonavita called the Pamela Life Crib, also in Pecan. It can be a toddler bed and a full sized bed w/head and foot boards. Unfortunately, I chose one of the *newest* cribs that Bonavita makes, so I don't have an exact pic of the crib we ordered, just something that's slightly similar. I cannot pull the similar pic off their website for some reason....I can only pull a thumbnail (rats!) Well, just to give you an idea:

All of these items coordinate with my pecan finished glider and ottoman:

As far as linens for the crib - that's going to be difficult! There are so many GORGEOUS sets at Behr's, but they are so expensive - I cannot fathom spending $700 on a crib set...my own bedding was less than $400!! Plus, I only need a crib skirt, a few sheets and blanket/comforter. I may just shop for the fabric and material, and have my MIL make a set for Paul. Colors are still being decided, since we are in process of developing a design for the mural on his bedroom walls. So much to do, but it's so much fun!!! Just wanted to share.

Claudine, GOrgeous, gorgeous !!

Im in the same process right now
John Anthony's crib is also by Bonavita and its also in Pecan ! (and we got it at Behr's !!) How funny ! Its a sleigh style. Converts to a toddler bed/drawer on the bottom. I love it.

Im still shopping for an area rug, a toy box, a cute lamp, (any suggestions of where to shop next ??) and i'm still undecided on the murals. I plan to do them myself.

Have you painted the room yet ? We chose a gorgeous blue color ,Whimsical Blue. By Behr Paints, satin finish. Make sure you get satin, its highly recommended for childrens rooms. Easy to clean.

I didnt think youd still get a changing station since Paul is over 6months old. thats when they are growing so fast and harder to hold down on the changing station (it almost seems like they outgrow it by the first year !) But the one with the hutch is great to use after they are over the diaper stage. (somehow though I always wondered about how comfortable it could be, changing a baby's diaper under that hutch ! )
Anyway, very cute styles you chose !!

Just last week we bought JA an armoire (kiddie size! I LOVE IT!!) a 4 drawer dresser, and a little night stand. skipped over the changing table !.

Have fun decorating !

PS- we can go curtain shopping together ! I still need those too !

Re: We purchased Paul's furniture and crib!

Thanks everyone, for the compliments!

Anna - can you get over Behr's and how much gorgeous stuff they have??? I love it ALL!

Re: the changing station - the shelves are adjustable/removable IF you wanted to have the hutch attached while using the changing pad. But, there is always the option of leaving the hutch off until you stop using the changing pad. It may not get too much use as a changing station once we are actually moved in, but I wanted to have it, just in case. I don't really know how else I would change him - he's not that hard to keep on the changing pad, despite how big he is and his age. Maybe b/c he's used to it, and I change him in the same place all the time? My biggest problem really is getting him to STOP playtime, in order to change him. LOL!

We haven't picked the colors for his room yet - I'm still working on the mural design. Once that's set, I'm sure the woman who is painting the mural will help me decide on a dominant color for the room. I have heard that satin finish paint is a must, but have also been warned about Behr's paint...we've heard from so many people that Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams cover much better and have less problems with sticking to the wall.

Re: the mural - so far, I am pretty sure I want a tall tree in the corner of the room that reaches the ceiling w/a treehouse, a wooden swing hanging from ropes tied to a branch of the tree. Perhaps a picket fence around the bottom half of the wall (not sure about this yet). Some little 'I spy' details hidden in the mural, like and airplane in the clouds, a bumble bee hidden in a flower, a bluebird in the tree, etc. I also want her to paint a growth chart on one of the walls.

I am having my brother's friend build us a bookcase to coordinate with the furniture, and I may ask him to also make a toy chest. Not sure yet. I am also dying to get Paul a rocking horse, but I might just put out a *hint* to the grandparents for his 1st b-day! LOL! Behr's also has these little 'mini' upolstered rocking chairs for kids that coordinate with some of the crib sets. My Mom fell in love w/the Snoopy chair, so I wouldn't be too surprised if that ends up in Paul's room!

WE will definitely have to go shopping for curtains...I haven't picked any window treatments yet, but I am salivating at the discovery of the Marburn Curtain Warehouse on Rt. 347....I am so excited to go in there!

Claud - your stuff is beautiful! We were at Behr's too this past weekend and I think we are set on what we want - we'll be going back to order it this weekend! I am sooo excited.

Question for you - who is doing the decorative painting for you? I had a woman recommended to me, but she is sick and unable to paint for a while. Would you mind letting me know who you are using - you can FM me the info if you prefer. Thanks!

Enjoy the new furniture!!

Hi Claud,

I love the idea, but I just wanted to give you something to think about with the growth chart. If you have it painted on the wall, it will one day be gone when the wall is painted over. Just thought I would mention this in case you want to use the chart until he is 12 or more. Ife he outgrows the mural after 7-8 years, for example, and you repaint, a new chart would need to be used. You could always keep a second paper chart if you like.

I love the furniture. May he have many healthy years in it!

Claud
Marburn is great !! I saw some light blue curtains that I might go pick up. Im debating though because theyre sheer, I might want something darker !!
Funny that you mentioned a tree painted on the wall. Im not an artist of ANY KIND, but every time we go to the pediatrician, Im DROOLING at the murals they have, and i found a tree there that looks easy to do. I want to do it in the corner, with the branches going up to the ceiling (I have to bring my digital next time!!) and I want to put the crib caddy corner 'under the tree'...
Im just nervous about starting to paint. Johns cousin does murals, and she gave me some advice on paints and ideas, etc. I want to paint things that are on his crib set (mostly bugs) on the wall next to the crib... im nervous Im going to do a draf on paper first.

The fence I idea is cute. ive seen that done. this vendor is BRUS was displaying her work (they had a day where tons of vendors sat around selling stuff). the fence looks great. cant wait to see how Pauls room turns out !!

Theres a cute wooden growth chart in macy's. it has slots for photos. my sis got it for me when i was prego, so im not sure if they still carry it.

There are some GORGEOUS rocking horses on ebay. only for about $85. I'll try to find you the link. this seller always has tons of them up. they have a store. im stumped between the light or dark wood.
and i also dont want to overcrowd the room !!
so many decisions !!

Enjoy !

Re: We purchased Paul's furniture and crib!

For all the mural lovers-- I saw a great TLC story--assuming it was baby story but dont remember--but they had a woman paint the nursery with a huge tree and fairies all over doing various things--it was the CUTEST thing I have ever seen--and I am not a mural fan--So realistic and beyond adorable
Cant wait to see what you guys create--
FYI my cousin is not creative and she did a tree themed mural in the boys playroom and it came out great--
I do know someone who does it if anyone is interested--My SIL--she does a lot of character type things but regular murals as well--I will ask her for some pics if anyone is interested
