We're meeting the priest this week - what can we expect?
He is not our parish priest, and I've talked to him on phone but only briefly. FH has never spoken to him. What do you think he'll ask us?

I can tell you about our experience - when we went the priest wanted a little bit about our backgrounds - age, education, where we were baptized, confirmed, make sure we weren't related, etc. Then the priest asked FI to leave for a few moments and the priest questioned just me. Basic stuff - why do I want to marry FI, am I doing this freely - that kind of stuff. He did the same thing with FI. Then he brought us back together and we discussed things like pre-cana and he gave us a HUGE book that we have to pick our readings out of. He did get a little into having God at our wedding - we wanted a ceremony and not a mass. FI was kind of turned off by this part.
All in all, we met with him about 90 minutes.

Dont be nervous I hate a huge debate with our priest and they are still marrying us. THey wont ask you anything personal because lets be real 99% of people have had premarital sex and live together and the church wnats to get paid so they turn a blind eye.

One other thing - I strongly recommend NOT telling the priest if you guys are living together! We weren't at the time, but I know GF's who said there were, and it was nothing but trouble! You hate to lie to a priest, but I think there are worse things in life than living together beforehand!! They'll ask for both addresses, so if you can, use a parent's or a friend's!!

Wow _ thanks you guys. I hope, I really, really hope, we do not have the same experience as you, Karen, b/c I just told FH and he said he won't lie (we live together). Yikers.....I might be looking for another parish!

clueless we told our priest we live together, I did not want to lie. He was not thrilled I am sure, but he has treated us the same as before and he didn't say anything negative to us

We didnt lie, it depends on oyur parish some will ask some wont.

we told the priest we were living together. we didn't want to lie. he gave us a little speech about how the church discourages it and he suggested that maybe we could consider living separately for at least the few months right before the wedding. yeah right! i don't think he is really expecting us to do that. it wasn't confrontational at all and he didn't question us about whether or not we would actually do it. i think as a priest it is something that they have to at least mention to you. although some probably feel more strongly about it than others. good luck!
