We survived the meeting with the church!

Thanks for the encouragement ladies! It wasn't bad at all. He just ran down a list of questions on a sheet, asked when we want to get married and it was a done deal! 20 minutes in and out. So I guess it's really official now...

I'M GETTING MARRIED!

Congrats! I was so nervous before we met with the priest too but it turned out to be not nearly as bad as I imagined in my head

Re: We survived the meeting with the church!

Okay, I have a TON of questions for you halloweenbride04, or I at least need you to let me know what was asked so I can calm down!!! I am totally freaking about this and I'm procrastinating on it. I know I should just go, but I'm so nervous. I have to get some paperwork filled out here in CA and send it to the church on LI before they'll save our date. I'm not really religious and my fh doesn't even believe in any of it, plus we live together. I'm afraid that they'll refuse to marry us!! I'm also afraid that we'll be 'interviewed' seperately and if we answer anything differently we'll be rejected! Please clear this up for me so I know what to expect. Thanks!!!!!!!

Re: We survived the meeting with the church!

this is what i got from my church.....
special circumstances:
if one of the couple is under 19yo it maybe be submitted to the bishop
if one is under 21(at marraige) parent must give permision
if premarital pregnancy is involved, approval must be received from bishop before a date can be set
if one of the parties has received any form of psychological or proffesional counseling, approval may be necessary from bishops office...

I was just as nervous. It only lasted for about 20 minutes and they were really concerned if you have ever been married before.

Re: We survived the meeting with the church!

OK, for those of you who are as anxious as I was. The first question we were asked was if either one of us had been married before, we said NO (which is true) and then he asked when we want to get married. He pulled out his date book and wrote us in. He then went over all of the requirements for the marriage....Baptismal certificates, marriage license, fees, pre-cana, etc...

Then he separated us and filled out a questionairre and some of those questions were Are you getting married on your own free will? Have you received psychological counseling? Is there any reason you're aware of that would interfer with marriage (alcoholism, mental illness, etc..), Is there any reason, medical or otherwise you cannot have children? Do you plan to have children? Plan to raise them Catholic? Do you plan to be faithful? Yadda, yadda, yadda......

We do live together and he didn't ask us if we did. While we were separated though he asked for my address, I gave him ours and FI gave him his mom's That's really not lieing right??

We were in and out in 20 minutes! We were lucky, my two future sisters-in-law were grilled (different church). They were asked why they wanted to get married, why in a Cathiolic Church......

Just relax, be yourself and decide before you go in if you will say you live together or not! Good Luck!
