Re: Wearing a Veil
I absolutely did not want to wear a veil either!! My mom kept making her comments how every bride needs a veil and that I'd just be a girl in a white dress without one! So to make her happy I decided to try veils on while trying on dresses and I actually fell in love! I ended up wearing my veil all night long!!
Give it a shot, if you decide you don;t want one then don't wear one! It's YOUR wedding!!
Good Luck!

I personally dont think you HAVE to do anything you dont want to. Do whatever you want! Have you picked your dress yet? If you havent, you might find one that looks good with a veil and you can always take the veil out after the ceremony!

Re: Wearing a Veil
Its my 2nd wedding and ive been thinking i dont want a veil. But i think i'll feel weird in the church without it - so i might just wear it for the ceremony and then take it off the rest of the day.

Re: Wearing a Veil
I did not want to wear one at all. I thought they looked too poof head and were very cliche'.
When I found my dress i tried it on with and without a veil and it just made it more complete and 'bride like' with the veil. I did, in fact, just look like a girl in a big puffy white dress.
with that being said, I do not intend to wear it for the reception but that could change depending on how it looks the day of with the make up and the hair and everything.
I say, find the dress first, then once you know it's THE ONE try it on with a veil. Make sure you take pictures too and see how you like it with and without one. It's totally different looking in the mirror that at a photo.
Good luck and HTH
oooh, also try the the veil on several ways too. You know, like one towards the top of your hair and then also at the bottom by the nape of your neck, that makes a difference too.

Re: Wearing a Veil
I'm a firm believer in doing what you want for your wedding. If you're not comfy wearing a veil, there's no written rule that you have to. I wasn't sure about wearing one, but when I tried mine on w/ my dress, I knew I wanted it. It's your wedding, you can't let anyone pressure you into doing something you dont' want to.

Re: Wearing a Veil
I agree w/ the other ladies - it's your wedding, so you should do what will make you feel happy & comfortable on your big day!! But, have you at least tried on veil? I would suggest that you at least try on a veil that works well w/ the gown and see if you like it or not~

Re: Wearing a Veil
Thank you all for your comments. I do agree with doing what I want being that it is my wedding. I think I will try them on and see if I find one that suits me and like you guys said i can always take it off.
Another question I have is I have bought my dress and I am so much in love with it. I am just having trouble with hairdos. My hair is down my back and my FH loves to see it down but my dress is sort of low back. Will it look tacky if my hair is down or should I try to style it up so that the back of the dress is seen?

Re: Wearing a Veil
Do you like your hair better up or down? I don't think it will look weird if you have it down even with a low back, especially if you get married in a church, some churches don't like a lot of skin showing so it would give the illusion that it's not as low. Know what I mean? I thought I wanted it up but the more I saw the half up half down styles I think I am going with one of those. I think I will feel more comfortable.

I have really long hair and my husband also loves it down...so I wore it down for him! I def wanted to look like 'me' on our wedding so I had my hair they way he likes it and I did my own makeup!
If you guys both like it down, then wear it down!

Re: Wearing a Veil
I am not wearing a veil, so I obviously don't think it's 'tacky'! You should do what you are comfortable doing, it's your wedding!
I am having the same issue as you with my hair. FH wants me to wear my hair down and that is how I normally wear it. I am just concerned about the humidity on my wedding day, which will make my hair very poufy!

Re: Wearing a Veil
I'm personally not wearing a veil only because the back of my dress has color in it so i think the veil would take away from it. I think you should do what you want its your day!
My hair is also all the way down my back to my butt and FH loves it down but my hair does not like humidity or sweat so i have to wear mine all up! I figure you can wear your hair down any day of the week so do something different on your wedding!

Re: Wearing a Veil
I don't think it's tacky at all not to wear a veil - in fact, if I could go back I probably would have opted not to! I wore one for pics beforehand, and the ceremony. As soon as the ceremony was over (and I mean immediately) I took it off my head. I felt stupid in it, played and figited with it the whole time it was on, and I want to show off my fantastic hairdo!! Do't get me wrong, veils are gorgeous and then can add so much to a dress - it just wasn't for me.
It's to each his own..... try some on and see how you feel, and if it's just not 'you', than who cares? You'll look beautiful either way.

I agree with the other girls. It's your day and if you don't want to wear a veil, then don't. At first I was totally against one also, but after trying some on, I changed my mind.

Same with me!! I think just wearing it at the church and for some pics is just enough

Re: Wearing a Veil
i felt very strongly about not wearing a veil...but when i tried the veil on with my dress, it just looked perfect. try it on with your dress and see what it looks like. if you picture yourself walking down the aisle without it, then go with your gut. if you feel like the outfit isn't complete without the veil, then you still have time to get one. maybe you can borrow a veil from a past bride if you don't want to invest in one or only want to wear it for pictures and the ceremony.

Re: Wearing a Veil
You don't have to wear a veil. I am tho. I have three, one long one, one short one, and one for my face. I wear all three at the same time but take two off after the church. It's definitely something to think about.

I think it's tacky for your MOH to tell you anything you want to do for your wedding is tacky! I don't think I want to wear a veil either, but who knows what the future may hold.
