I need a bit of advice about wearing a veil. I have talked to older women in my family and they say that usually only women that have never been with a man can wear a veil on their wedding day and then I've heard from other women that you can still wear one but not covering your face.
I live with my fiancee already so I need some advice because I don't want to NOT wear one and then look ridiculous and vice versa.

Re: Wearing a veil
I've never heard that before.
This is another case of 'Your day, your way' to me
P.S. - I've lived with an ex and I'll be living with FH soon and I will be wearing a veil at my ceremony.

Re: Wearing a veil
Hi Vics.
There is no 'rule' about wearing a veil.
I live with my FH, we (ya know) like bunnies and im wearing a veil
These might 'old fashioned' views of what THEY did in the 1930's to 50's.
So you can wear a veil and still feel good about it.

Re: Wearing a veil
I've only heard of this 'rule' for women that are getting married for a 2nd time. Usually for a 2nd marriage there is no veil.
Either way, I say do whatever you want and don't worry about rules. If we all went by traditional rules, very few brides would even be wearing white anymore since your not supposed to wear it unless you're 'pure'!

I've never heard of this. I think it's the bride's preference whether she wants to wear a veil or not.

Re: Wearing a veil
If you want a veil you should wear one. I plan on having one but not a blusher. My friend is getting married this Sat and she is from DR and she told me that in her culture the women cannot wear a blusher if they have been with a man but can still wear a veil. I guess it like the whole unveiling yourself thing to your FH when the blusher is removed. Some people just wear blushers for the father daughter moment, it's all about what you want.

Re: Wearing a veil
Well if you can't wear a veil because you've 'been with' a man, then you shouldn't be wearing white either....................
These rules are just that....rules......and rules are meant to be broken.
FH and I have been together over 9 years. We're living together now over 2. I am wearing a WHITE gown, and I WILL be wearing a veil.

ITA!
If you are going to follow that, then you shouldn't be wearing a white dress either, and probably neither should 99% of the women on this site! Those rules don't apply anymore, if you want to wear a veil, then you wear one. I am 30, have been with my fair share of men and will be wearing a wedding gown and veil.

THANK YOU ALL!!!!...I really feel much better now. It made me very sad hearing that from them (family) because it seemed like a cheap shot at me...
I saw a very beautiful veil that has no blusher and I will definitely be wearing it. Its a mantilla veil !!!

Re: Wearing a veil
Believe me no one is going to be thinking' huh, she lives with him, she shouldn't wear a veil'. Don't let some jealous old ladies ruin your day and what should be a wonderful time! I love mantillas, they are so beautiful!

Good for you and next time remind them that we women are allowed to vote. Just in case they missed that memo.

Re: Wearing a veil
blablabla ..... if we followed these rules, 99.5% of us would be wearing pink, red or black dresses to our weddings.

Re: Wearing a veil
They tried telling me that I had to wear an off-white or cream colored dress....AND I ALMOST LISTENED!!! I guess it's that old mentality or in my FH's own words 'they are hating on you'.

Re: Wearing a veil
You can wear a veil. I totally agree with everyone else that its your day and you should do what you want. A lot of these 'rules' are very outdated. Nowadays brides can do whatever they want. Whooo Hooo!!

Re: Wearing a veil
I also agree with everyone... you can definitely wear a veil and some of the most beautiful pictures are your face through the blusher. I'm going to wear a veil but haven't decided on a blusher since i'm not sure I want anything covering my face.
If we all went by those 'rules' then none of us would be wearing WHITE dresses! haha
